Bloody bra underwires!

Espressotini · 28/06/2014 21:47

Hi all,

After my 3rd underwire in a week popping out to say hello in the middle of the bloody school fair I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a shop/brand with underwires that aren't constantly trying to escape?! Sick of it!

I'm fairly large boobed if that's of any consequence - 34f usually

Thankyou!

Are you washing your bras in a bag/pillowcase with the back done up? It stops them from twisting. I have some net bags from Lakeland, I use them for bras, tights & anything I don't want to risk snagging.

Yes to using a laundry net bag (or hand washing if you can arsed).

Are you definitely wearing the right size? Wearing the wrong size bra can result in uneven strain on the wires and material.

Ah, I am terrible (lazy) at laundry, will investigate net bags though- thanks both!

Think I'm the right size, but boobs are uber squashy since I finished bf a couple of years ago so never quite sure. Have just remeasured with a bra thread on mn and that came up 34ff though, so shouldn't be a million miles off!

Any tips for good, but fairly cheap, bras?

Thanks!

I've just bought a couple of 38Fs in Primark for £4 each.

Try Brastop, Figleaves, Leia Outlet, Me and My Curves, Amazon and EBAY

It might be worth trying a size up - one cup size isn't always that obvious but it can cause wire problems.

I was moaning about this whilst buying bras and lady serving me said if you wash them in 40oc it melt the plastic bits on the end of the underwire and then they tend to be more likely to escape. I'm trying washing at 3Ooc instead to see if it makes a difference. Of course, the lady suggested hand washing but life is too short to spend it hand washing! Not to sure of the truth of this but thought it was worth a go.

I also bought a bra bag for the washing machine but my bras were too big to fit in the bag. (34J) Blush

Lakeland do a large bag as well as bags which are a bit bigger than A3.

Yikes! Unless you're buying über cheapo bras, this shouldn't happen!

  1. If buying cheap bras, stop! I know it's awful paying £20+ for bras but by god it makes a difference to fit & comfort & I've never had wires poke out on me (I'm 28F).
  1. Yes, definitely make sure you're wearing the right size.
  1. Definitely look at how you wash them. Agree wholeheartedly about hand washing - who the flip has time to arse about doing that?? I have bras that are years old still going strong & this is what I do: fasten bra; put into net bag; 30° wash (or cold) on a gentle or wool cycle; DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER! It wrecks the elastics.
