This wknd: big wardrobe reshuffle!!! Tips?

My wardrobe has become a midden and I've had enough. So this weekend I'm going to take out all the rubble of shoe boxes/belts/bags etc from the bottom and sort it all out & have a clothes edit too.

So will gratefully receive any tips to help make my wardrobe organisational heaven!

I've got a shelf, then a hanging rail underneath and space in the bottom though not a lot there.

Buy a belt thing from marks. Put shoes you like but never wear in loft on a box. Plus out of season stuff.
Ikea bags are your friend

I love doing this, how sad! My wardrobe is a similar layout to yours and I've got:

  • Shirts, tops, dresses, trousers, coats etc hanging on the rail by type then in colour order
  • Tshirts, vests, things like swimming costumes etc in a sweater hanger at one end
  • 2 big storage boxes from Ikea on the top shelf with out of season stuff
  • Selection of smaller boxes on the shelf with hats, gloves, belts, purses and other small items
  • Shoes lined up on a rack at the bottom with 'best' ones stacked in their boxes
  • Scarves on a hanger on the inside of one door
  • Bags on hooks on the inside of the other door

It gives me great pleasure to see my wardrobe like this but I still never seem to have anything to wear!

Chuck out anything too stained, damaged etc to be repaired, and anything too short.

If there's anything really nice, but doesn't fit think carefully about if it can be altered (or if you are going to lose/put on weight) , and if the cost is worth it. Else chuck.

Make a pile of stuff that just needs buttons/hems etc fixing, then fix them! Machine dye can work wonders too.

Belts can have new holes added, shoes can be resoled.

Someone will come on with the "anti pasti and Eton mess" of this thread- the photos on shoe boxes. Just wrote it with a marker pen if you even have boxes

I have drawers under my bed for scarves. Be ruthless though. Plus winter ones in loft

Thanks for the tips so far. Sadly it's a sliding door wardrobe so I don't have the inside door space.

Think I definitely need one of the belt hangers mentioned!

Sadly excited to soon be able to look upon an organised wardrobe!

Ooh Lakeland are selling off their accessory hangers! Just bought a couple for about £2 - bargain! That should sort out my belts..

I have the IKEA hanger (Komplement or similar name it was IIRC £10, might be lying)

I have gone through all my wardrobe- nice sweaters in those suction bags in the loft.
Coats, scarves ,gloves ,too
Boots in another

Then my finer knits - the bobbly ones had to go
Everything else in colour co-ordination (from black/ black&white/navy/brown/reddish/grey/green/light colour/white)

And all those things that were hanging in my wardrobe 'just in case' I went somewhere nice- in the loft (I'll make DH go up and fetch them IF he ever takes me somewhere nice Grin )
