Ds's first day at school on Monday. How should I dress?

To avoid the cliques I mean?

Should I look drop dead gorgeous, frumpy (ala high waisted jeans, a fleece and comfortable shoes) or sports casual look.

Oh wise mumsnetters experienced in this please offer your advice.

Thank you so much.

ah but you're going to a nice religiousy school, so just wear your best floral pinny and casually dangle your book of common prayer from your handbag and they'll be flocking to invite you and your ds round for quiche

stephanieplum · 07/09/2006 17:02

Drop dead gorgeous always works!

Northerner · 07/09/2006 17:03

we have one (very young) mum who turned up on Tues with the teeniest skirt I have ever seen, supported by the fattest legs I have ever seen in a teeny skirt and the highest heels....well, the collective intake of breaths, followed by the collective hiss of ''Well did you see that'' caused a small tornado felt as far away as Blackburn....

And there is a small dedicated band of 'professional yummymummies' who walk in with their £400 handbags dangling on the end of their outstretched arms in a ''somebody notice my bag'' manner. They spend each and every day shopping.

(Yes, I am a little envious )

coderoo · 08/09/2006 14:03

well?

SSSandy · 10/09/2006 17:46

Think Italian: nice hair, little make-up, nice jeans, good shoes and bag, big pullover

Bozza · 10/09/2006 21:52

So far this term I have done flipflops, cropped jeans and gypsy top and flipflops, linen skirt and t-shirt.

mousiemousie · 11/09/2006 12:40

Best thing to wear is a big smile and talk to everyone about their kids

fullmoonfiend · 11/09/2006 22:45

well?? What did you wear?? Did the other mums play nice?
Did Dh sweep the teacher off her feet with the bouquet???
