Off the peg wedding dress for a 5'2'' inch lady! Help?

Hi all. Does anyone know where I can find an off-the-peg wedding dress for a shorter lady like me? I love the Monsoon dresses but the bottoms cant be altered for the dresses I like, as they are scalloped. Getting married in just four months (in the Carribbean) but also having a small winter church wedding too for the family. I want something non fussy with no train. Just a full length dress - well, full length at my height! Help!

I'm 5"3 and every single full length wedding dress I tried on would have had to be altered length wise. The other option you could try is a shorter one, or look at bridesmaid collections as they often have ivory dresses and are a bit cheaper and often less fancy so easier to alter.

Bhs?

Dresses can often be shortened from the waistband rather than cutting off the bottom, I would take a picture of the dress you like to someone who does alterations and ask their opinion.

Debenhams, john lewis,

I'm 5'1 and went with a tea length dress in the end since I wanted to avoid costly alterations if possible.

It was supposed to be tea length on a normal sized person but just touched the floor on me when I was barefoot :)

Thanks for the advice. I even spoke to Monsoon's customer services who were not very helpful/knowledgeable other than to say that scalloped edge dresses would be very difficult to take up.

Monsoon's customer service are shop girls, not dressmakers. Ask a dress maker? Send them the online link to the dress you like and ask opinion.

My dress is being made for me at a dressmakers. It was only £400 and is stunning!

Is that an option?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 25/06/2014 07:35

I'm 5'2" and bought my full length dress at Debenhams and had it take up for about £20. It was a straight bottom though, a scallop bottom would need to be takes in from a higher seam like the waist so would cost more as it's basically remodelling the dress.

Have a look on Pinterest/ google images for ballerina length wedding dresses or find a pattern that you like and a decent seamstress. Good luck!

A decent dressmaker should be able to take up a dress at the waist, as pp have said. A lot of intricate beading would make this more difficult, though. I would get a professional dressmaker's opinion of the dress(es) that youile before writing off Monsoon.

Sample sales at bridal shops & then alter. I got mine for 225

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am not sure if having a dress made is viable as I need it for October and also on limited funds. I will look up all these tips! Thanks, I was so worried!"
