Right - I am a big fatty with a golf club centenary thing to go to in october. I am 5ft 6" and a size 18-20. My DH will be a 'special guest' but the golf club is not an overly posh one. I have flabby arms and not great legs - huge norks and a lumpy body in general. I don't have a 'best bit' of my body - my face is quite thin though lol! Please help me! Preferably something I can order online as am out in sticks! I am nipping out for 20 mins but will be back soon! Also, I don't have an awful lot of money to spend .

Wrap dresses are good - how about this - there are loads of black ones around too, if that's what you'd prefer. You can dress it up with heels and jewellery, but also dress it down afterwards with boots for daytime.

Tutter · 07/09/2006 10:36

agree re wrap dresses. they may be less trend-of-the-moment than they were a cople of years ago, but they are flattering and easy to wear. maybe go for something plain, with magic underwear and a fab necklace or scarf to draw rhe eye to your neck and face?

Tutter · 07/09/2006 10:38

ps dotty p's has a black wrap dress with 3/4 sleeves for £25

Tutter · 07/09/2006 10:42

pps i invested in a waist cincher recently and love it. if you're not going to get much wear out of the dress i think you'd be better off spending money on decent underwear (that you can use again and again) and a nice scarf/choker/necklace, but getting a bargain dress like the dotty p's one

schneebly · 07/09/2006 10:42

hmmm... are you aged between 60 and 75? if not, NO!

schneebly · 07/09/2006 10:51

God - I am sooo crap at this!

JackieNo · 07/09/2006 10:57

this looks elegant, but costs a bit more. Do you want pattern/colour or black/dark?

schneebly · 07/09/2006 10:59

I like that too Jackie. I am not afraid of most colours but steer away from anything too light or bright red! Dont mind green, blue etc or patterns.

Principles have some nice dresses too - in fact have a look at all of them (although not all available in all sizes).

schneebly · 07/09/2006 11:12

I love that one jackie - really like the neckline. Best so far I think. Off to look again. Thanks.

I like that one Schneebly too

Tutter · 07/09/2006 12:33

you see i like it, but not for an evening do - too schoolmarmy imho.

a more plunging neckline and only 3/4 sleeves - you know you want to...

MamaG · 07/09/2006 12:38
  1. Get some magic underwear.

2. Get your norks out.

3. Get FABULOUS shoes and bag - high heels a must I reckon, no matter what you're wearing!

4. Have your hair done.

5. Get good jewellery.

mm yes that sounds good

schneebly · 07/09/2006 15:06

Ooh am linking the idea of a corset now! [confused emoticon] I have a nice trouser suit that would go with a corset but it is cream so might be too weddingy? Wide trousers might be a good plan but I would be concerned about fat spillage coming from underneath the corset! I suppose I could get those big knickers that hold you in!

Thanks to everyone BTW - I love mumsnet! Always has an answer!

No cream would be fine, I think. Get big knicks so you can relax, a corset would look fab I bet.
