Anyone found a solution? Or am I doomed to trainers & foot rot….

Thestoey I have this problem too. In the winter I have orthopaedic shoes / boots with a special insole but in the summer I'd love to wear sandals.

Ecco used to make some which were perfect as their 'footpad' insole can be removed so I can put my special one in but they haven't made this style (the only one which would stay on) for years so I am wearing some uncomfortable Hotters at the moment in desparation.

I'm sorry I can't help but wanted you to know you're not alone.

I have to admit that I have become lazy about wearing mine.

I have a pair of full ones though and a 'half' pair also ... the 'half' pair are much easier to get in a shoe. Have you tried those?

Historically when wearing them I just tried to get a summer shoe or sandal with a bar rather than an open sandal.

I have found more recently that if I wear shoes or sandals with a heel, I have fewer issues with my legs. I have also noted that a decent amount of Pilates has really strengthened my core and legs. Only saying as in the end this seems to have helped me seemingly resolve the issues another way.

I'm having to stick with skechers go walk lace ups. There is a karrimor closed back mens sports sandal that looks like it might be ok from sports direct but it's crap really. My feet think they are in a radiator

Dr Marten Carolyn? They come in black, red, or flowery tan leather. I find them extremely comfortable even with orthotics (I buy the 3/4 insoles for summer), and they're very good quality.

Only my Birkenstocks seem to cut it for me, I only have a half orthotic (to stop my ankles turning in) but have had no luck with sandals. I did consider sticky velcro to hold it in place though.

Pandsbear · 23/06/2014 14:48

MsTwankeyToYou But how do you mange to keep the orthotics in place if the back of the sandal has no back??! Do they not slowly work out the back of your heel? I can't put my orthotics in and get them to stay in place and even then you can see the back of them anyway ( have just hopefully put them in a pair of open-backed fit flop sandals to see what happens).

Pandsbear - Lots of cludging, I'm afraid! I got a set of 3/4 length orthotics, painted the exposed sides black to match the sandals (which are chunky enough for the extra bulk to be less obvious), and stuck them onto the footbed of the sandals with lots of double-sided tape. It doesn't look too bad, and took about 10 mins of actual effort to achieve, plus drying time. If the insoles come unstuck, I'll probably glue them next time.

I'm not sure whether it would work for more rigid or bulky orthotics than mine - I wear insoles for moderate overpronation, if that's any help. Smile

I'm a new orthotics wearer and after a winter of wearing boots I am now living in converses. I found a pair of Clarks shoes which I quite like with a removable insole where I can slot in my orthotics.

I have also found a website with lots of sandals but they're all really ugly and expensive. I quite like some of the vionic ones but £60 is ridiculous for sandals I don't love.

I'm so depressed I think I'm going to live in trousers and converses as I can't find any nice shoes to go with all the dresses I own.

Have you tried fitflops? They are the most comfortable shoes in the world. My Mum needs orthotics but she can wear fitflops
Original Factory Shop has some for about £25 at the moment, might be worth a shot

RoganJosh · 23/06/2014 15:57

I was just coming on here to suggest fitflops. They aren't amazingly beautiful but there's a lot more choice than when they first launched.

I have a pair of Joseph Siebel sandals, a few years old now. They are the cage ones with zips up the back that hold everything in.

Thx for your input everyone. Still sweltering in my New Balance for now.

Fit flops here as well. Clarks have lots if great sandals in with soft bits in the heels. They feel great in the shop but I haven't been a bit nervous about buying
