Walking Shoes

Has anyone got any suggestions for some good walking shoes. I'm not after a pair of trainers but a good pair of shoes I can walk forever in and look good I suppose. I know myself if I buy some trainers I'll wear them twice and they'll be thrown to the back of the wardrobe. Any excuse not to exercise!

You mean something like a walking boot or something like these???

NormHonal · 22/06/2014 23:18

Skechers GoWalk are very comfy and light as a feather.

I would really like a light version of a walking boot I suppose. I'm afraid I might sweat to death in them for the summer. I've had a look at those Gowalk and do like the patterned versions of them.

Will google light walking boots and see what it throws at me.

it does need some real shopping I'm afraid - find a town with a concentration of outdoor shops and ask for advice from someone that knows.

they all have different shapes so it is try on to see what fits. You'll also need to test them on slopes and stairs; any decent outdoor shop will have a test slope.

if you are a 7 or above look at men's shoes.

real exercise does produce a bit of sweating.

those sketchers will be useless anywhere that isn't paved. If you just want pavement, they will be fine although they look very unsupportive so I'd just use them for a trip to the shops.

Another vote for Skechers GoWalk. I don't even take them off when I come home they are so comfy.

KneesoftheBee · 23/06/2014 10:51

I agree that Skechers are not really suitable for serious walking, however.

If you mean serious walking with proper support, look in an outdoor shop at some walking sandals. I bought some North Face once and while neither stylish or beautiful they are very sportive, cool and I can walk miles in them. As soon as I put them on I realised why people sacrifice style for comfortGrin

There are a vast number on the market. If you want them only for summer/good weather/dry paths, get ones without Goretex or similar waterproof linings. You want to have a proper walking sole, not trainer soles which you might slip in. I've got a pair of Berghaus walking shoes which are great for summer walking. Cotswold has a very wide range of walking shoes.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I was hoping not to have to trek to the shops, but I will this weekend.

Good for wide feet.

I have a few styles of Sketchers Go Walk and they're great. The sole is nice and thick and holds my feet in place. The top comes up higher than many other similar styles and does keep them on your feet well. I use them for walking into town, around museums etc. Any day that I'll need to be on my feet lots, that isn't hiking. They're like walking on air.

One thing that's great about the is the flexible sole which helps me walk very comfortably. That's also their limitation., I wouldn't set off on a several mile country walk or anywhere where my feet need some protection. Outdoor stores are full of light weight gortex walking shoes, the best ones are the ones that fit you best. What's great for me would be a nightmare for someone else.
