Bra intervention

I've gone back a few pages, I can't find a recent bra intervention thread and don't want to resurrect an old one.

I've just measured up - 35" around ribcage, and 42" round fullest part. I've been in a 38F for aaaaages... it's the wrong size, isn't it?

I think she might have made the classic mistake of going up in the band rather than up in the cup. It's easy to do as sometimes if the cup is too small it nicks fabric from the band making the band look too small IYSWIM?

A 34FF would have the same cup volume as a 36F. Can you scoop in the 36F just now and see how it fits? Also, which bra is it?

MotherOfFerals · 06/07/2014 22:32

It's a Fantasie. When I do a scoop it does fit but there's still a bit of loose mesh and the top if the cup doesn't look full. Style of bra perhaps?
The gores have left a mark and there's a faint red line underneath both boobs which I thought would mean the band was tight but I can pull the band away from my back by a couple of inches too.

MotherOfFerals · 06/07/2014 22:33

Fantasie Susanna.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/07/2014 22:44

Would I be right in guessing that the scooping isn't "holding" i.e. the flesh drifts back afterwards?

Red marks are totally normal and not a sign it's too tight. It's like socks where they leave a line on your ankle, or fitted jeans or pants.

It sounds like a combination of needing a smaller band and a different style. You probably need something which is more balconette or half cup style so that you don't have spare space at the top. Something along the lines of the Cleo Juna, Freya Patsy Half cup, bravissimo branded half cups, Freya Marvel...

Fantasie tend to run on the big side cup wise so I would suggest trying some balconettes or half cups in a 34FF (same cup size in a smaller band) and 34G (one cup bigger) and seeing how you get on with those.

MotherOfFerals · 06/07/2014 22:58

Yes, I should have included the 'boob drift'!
I'll rescue my ancient bras from the bin and take the Fantasie back. Bugger!
Thanks for the advice.

I sometimes have a wee "rescoop" during the day as even with the best bra you can move a bit, especially when you are sitting down or moving and the bra position shifts. But it shouldn't be particularly quick and it's often a sign that the bra is too big in the band (or that it's been worn too many times and needs a wash/is getting past it)

marriednotdead · 07/07/2014 08:18

I'd suggest trying a 'shorter' style such as a Fantasie's Jana and Salsa or Freya's Marvel and Patsy half cup. If there is less volume at the top i.e. armpit level, you may need a cup that finishes lower there.

The fact that scooping doesn't last sounds as if your breasts when lifted have more width than height so the wires need to go further round under your arm like mine Smile

marriednotdead · 07/07/2014 08:21

Sorry for repetition SC, half asleep and didn't read properly Blush If the gores are digging in a Fantasie bra, chances are that the Juna will be agony!

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/07/2014 09:32

I think I'm odd, fantasie wires dig in where Cleo don't on me! Weird boobs!

MotherOfFerals · 07/07/2014 14:32

Bra journey over.
Went into JL as a 36DD.
Left as 36 FF (ouchie) and pretty much straight into Bravissimo.
Departed a comfortable torpedo breasted 32G.
Who'd a thunk?

AnguaResurgam · 15/07/2014 18:24

Back to update: the Panache sports bras have arrived and are great. They are really comfy, and hoick me up and in on regular wear, and really strap 'em down with the racer back clip done up. I wanted the bright colours, which had sold out everywhere in 36G, so I went up a cup size and they are fine (possibly premenstrual, but definitely workable, IYSWIM)

Many thanks for the recommendation!

CelticPromise · 15/07/2014 18:51
