My brother is getting married in just over a month.
I am fat (size 18 bottom, 16 top) large gut,big arse and bra size 38c so I suppose Apple shaped?
Blonde Bobbed hair. Tall 5ft 10.
I will need to buy something on line as with 3 small kids no prospect of getting to shops.
Budget up to £250.
I am literally clueless as to what would suit me. I will also need to invest in some serious tummy control pants! I would be so grateful for a few ideas!

jimmybim the phase eight dress is great, also the Jaques Vert maxi.

Right, I am going to order a selection and will keep you posted!

I have just bought this dress and I am delighted with it.

jimmybim · 22/06/2014 16:52

Excellent news, keep us posted!

polyhymnia · 22/06/2014 17:03

Phase Eight good. J Vert also surprisingly nice.

At that size you have a very wide choice as nearly everyone goes up to 18 nowadays. For example have you looked at Hobbs?

I advise avoiding 'specialist' Plus size retailers if possible - which it should be for you. And particularly avoid the dreadful Dawn French clothes which look like tents.

Also think maxis harder to bring off than just over knee.

Aaaabbbbcccc · 22/06/2014 17:08

Marina Rinaldi on line - summer clothes on sale at the moment - lots of their stuff looks good on plus sizes (Italian)

Tentedjuno · 22/06/2014 18:09

I have just looked at Dawn French's site, prompted by this thread, and was not impressed.

What do you think is the problem that we are all supposed to know about that this strange garment solves?

what the heck!

DottyDooRidesAgain · 22/06/2014 18:10

Chaffing thighs Grin

polyhymnia · 22/06/2014 18:18

The Dawn French are unutterably dreadful.always amazed anyone would put their name to them.

Yes to Marina Rinaldi - I have a lot of their stuff ( larger sized label in Max Mara group) though haven't tried their online yet so not sure how wide a selection it has.

polyhymnia · 22/06/2014 18:19

Wow those bloomers are horrific - I'll stick with the Lanacane.

Tentedjuno · 22/06/2014 18:28

Dotty, why couldn't they just say that instead of a coy hint? Wouldn't these things add to the heat especially with the double inner thigh fabric? Imagine showing a glimpse of these under your 'cool dresses and skirts'; talk about passion killers. Confused

DottyDooRidesAgain · 22/06/2014 18:32

Grin ha I have no idea but the website doesn't have a underwear section it has a private view section Confused.

Tentedjuno · 22/06/2014 18:40

Crikey, there are more horrors in the private view section

like these

£35 FFS

Fairylea · 22/06/2014 18:43

Yours do some very good yet hideously unsexy long knickers from sloggi for about £15. Absolutely brilliant at stopping chub rub (!) And high cotton too.

I wear sexy undies underneath and if I feel the moment might "arise" (cough) I whip them off in the loo and stuff them in my handbag :)

polyhymnia · 22/06/2014 18:46

Wow, WHO asked for those lawn bloomers as the site insists?

Tentedjuno · 22/06/2014 18:50

Whole new train of thought coming along here, do men get 'chub rub' other than maybe when cycling? Perhaps some are thus aflicted and do your trick, Fairylea, of nipping to the loo and reappearing in their slinkies. Where would they store the big ones though unless they had a manbag?

polyhymnia · 22/06/2014 18:51

I've always found Lanacane does the job well enough on its own.

GirlsonFilm · 22/06/2014 18:52

I went to 1647 years ago......came out wanting to weep.....I can see it hasn't changed, I'd only recommend it if you have no alternatives.

Fairylea · 22/06/2014 18:53

I'll be looking at any man with a "man bag" very suspiciously from now on. ....

Maybe the hairy thighs help to stop it? Perhaps I'll just stop shaving :)
