Personal stylist session - I am an ungrateful cowbag & now I have a question!

I bought a personal stylist session for my husband who was having a image crisis! He never did it so in the end I did so as not to waste the money (too ashamed to say how much it cost - was earning big at the time, now sahm!).

I've had a baby so was feeling all enormous of nork and frumpy. She was a lovely woman, all edgey and fashiony and helpful. She had picked up some lovely clothes. My budget was a respectable £500 and for that I have an amazing pair of jeans but the rest of it is a bit meh. I feel so ungrateful. I have always thought that I just didn't have the 'secret' to fashion and that this would give it to me, but it turns out I wasn't making any terrible fashion faux pas and now the emperor very much has no clothes on.

So my question is, what items in your wardrobe make you feel genuinely stylish and pulled together? I thought I knew, but as it turns out I don't, please share!

When I'm not at work I feel best in my Next jeans, Hush vest top and a good bra.

A well cut blazer with chunky necklace.

I am however neither edgy or fashion forward,I more comfortable in a good classic with a bright bag/necklace/rings.

I would love a personal shopper though,in the hope that it would make me try something new.But I'd say I am stuck in my ways.

I'm a casual dresser and most of my clothes are fairly plain (I like to be comfortable and I don't like fussy clothes). So, I always feel more stylish when I have a few accessories like some jewellery or hair accessories.

Without a doubt good jackets are the key item for me. I prefer a biker style fabric jacket as it suits my shape. If you have a couple of great jackets and decent jeans day to day dressing is just so easy

Also a great believer in good quality shoes, bag and I'm never without jewellery of some description

When I get up I want to wear a navy fitted but drapey and casual long sleeved top ideally with a slash neck, distressed mid blue skinnies, silver jewellery and slip on shoes - my fave are snakeskin Bloch ballerinas. Once I realised this I stuck to buying variations on this! Boring but it works. So I spend on good quality jeans, and keep an eye out for tops with a slash neck that are long in the body. I bought two of a greyish navy fine knit jumper this week because it was £6 from Primark but it's exactly right! So if it falls apart after a couple of washes I have a spare. And a fantastic handbag at all times . I think for me dressing simply and focusing on grooming and details works best.

I like looking at other people who look good, but I try not to get distracted. Keeping your wardrobe pared down and having regular clear outs is also very very good - stops it being a depressing experience opening your wardrobe trying to find something you like that fits.

What's your outfit that you feel most 'you' in and most comfortable? What you'd wear every day if you could.

I really rate Debenhams personal shoppers. Have been using them for years in different cities I've lived in. There has been the odd dodgy one but the vast majority have got me outfits I wouldn't have chosen myself - new colours for a start that I wouldn't have touched- and I always get complements on the outfits they select. I've done it so long now that I kind of get what suits me now but always go to them for special occasion stuff.
