I'm just wondering if it can be used with cotton wool or even washed off

I use flannels to wash it off :)

amazonianwoman · 20/06/2014 00:32

Flannels here too. Doesn't work well without some kind of cloth IMO

Housewife2010 · 20/06/2014 08:15

I don't use a cloth in the morning. I don't think it's necessary then. I just wash it off in the shower. In the evening, I use a cloth for a through cleanse.

peachdaiquirionmytoes · 20/06/2014 08:17

I rarely use the cloth since being diagnosed with rosacea. I works just as well IMO.

Do you use cotton wool

Extra Muslin cloths are very cheap on ebay.

Elsiequadrille · 20/06/2014 10:54

Flannels here too

MyrtleDove · 20/06/2014 12:14

I find using a cloth too rough on my skin, but some cream cleansers can be rinsed off. I've just started using Cetaphil by rubbing onto dry skin, then rinsing off with lukewarm water, and it works fine.

peachdaiquirionmytoes · 20/06/2014 12:32

No cotton wool - just massage in and rinse off.

SunshineofRay · 20/06/2014 13:13

I use flannels too, bought a load of plain flannels for wilkos for about 30p each

Blithereens · 20/06/2014 13:32

I actually use microfibre cleaning cloths for my flannels Blush Not the ones I clean the house with, obviously! I bought a huge bundle of white ones and keep them separate. They are smoother on my skin than proper flannels, nice and thin and a good size. Use them like a flannel though: hand-hot water, wring out, place over face for a moment and then gently wipe away cleanser.

I think Liz Earle is too rich in oils to rinse off without a bit of a steam / scrub. Use a more creamy cleanser or a gel based one if you want to splash off. Peaches and Clean is gorgeous, creamy, rinses clean and chemically exfoliates too. Or Avene gentle cleanser is gel, or Dermalogica Ultracalming gel cleanser. Or Shu Uemura cleansing oils worth a go too as they are liquid oils with emulsifying agents added which mean they are the best of both worlds of oil and water cleansing. I like massaging a cleanser into my face but not the scrubbing with a cloth bit so have tried quite a few!

Please don't wash your face in the morning! Your skin has spent all night making the sebum to protect the skin for the next day. The last thing you want to do is wash this off.
Just splash with water & put on your daily SPF etc

u32ng · 21/06/2014 22:53

justgotosleepnow: interrrresting advice! I wash every morning except at weekends when I usually too busy running around after DS or can't be arsed.

Might try that and see how I get on.

Anyway, I use the cloths but I'm of the opinion that a flannel would prob do the same 'scrubby' job as the muslin. I feel if you just rinse it off then what's the point? May as well just use a wash off cleanser. I alternate between Liz & Simple.

justgo I was always told that your face spends all night sweating, so you need to cleanse off the residue.

I'm going peri meno so my skin is clammy as blazes in the morning Sad

On the thread- I don't like cotton wool, I use muslin cloths, they exfoliate as they clean

Justgotosleepnow · 22/06/2014 10:08

70 yes I guess it does sweat a bit, but that would rinse off with splashing with water in the shower.

The sebum barrier is mega important in protecting your skin against uv etc. if you wash & scrub this off each morning your skin is completely exposed and is working all day to protect itself again. Probably making oil so you think your skin is oily. So you scrub it more. A viscious circle really.

Pennastucky · 22/06/2014 10:10

I use a ht cloth cleanser bit with a flannel. Muslin irritates my skin. I just buy five packs of cheap, soft flannels from Superdrug, and bung them in the washing machine once a week.

amazonianwoman · 22/06/2014 21:44

I never wash my face in the morning. It either gets wet through hair washing or I splash it with cold water. I'm nearly 48 with hardly any lines/wrinkles Smile. Being overweight and having had oily skin pre DCs probably helps though...
