I went for my first bra fitting and.........

I have been wearing a 38C and usually ended up with quad boobs that I had to keep pushing under my arms . After trying on about 7 bras I bought the first one I tried on in a size 34D. It fits really well and boobage is now at least an inch more lifted but as the band is tight which is necessary it does show up more back fat, which is a bit disappointing and something I thought may happen.

It is a Prima Donna which I have never heard of and was £53 so not cheap but worth it hopefully. Will get used to it and then maybe buy some more.

Thanks for whoever mentioned Essentials in Preston which is where I went.

As the bra softens and stretches slightly the back fat effect will lessen

Congratulations on your non-surgical boob job Smile

HazleNutt · 18/06/2014 15:24

Hm, that sounds a bit odd - if you had quad boobs in 38C then you should certainly have them also in 34D, as the cup is actually smaller than C in 38 band. If you try the bra back to front, is it still tight?

SorrelForbes · 18/06/2014 15:48

I agree with Hazle, that sounds odd. Did you scoop? I would expect you to have more quadboob and back bulge with a 34D as it's a smaller cup than the 38C.

ilovekittycats · 18/06/2014 16:24

I think the reason I had quad boob before is because the bra was too loose (but comfy) and when I leaned over because the central gore was not tight enough to my chest they would fall into the middle. When I stood up straight and "adjusted" them the top part of the cup was quite empty as I have no fullness there. The new bra is tight at the centre and nothing escapes, if that makes sense?

Yes it does but I'm wondering if that gaping was more to do with the style of the bra? A 34D is a cup smaller than a 38C so with scooping I would definitely expect to see overspill. The fact that you have more back fat showing confirms that IMHO. Which bra did you buy?

ilovekittycats · 18/06/2014 17:29

It was a Prima Donna Menton and I just tried it on with a dress with a seam under the bust and with the old bra it was almost half way up the bra but with new one it is at bottom of underwire.

It does feel a bit tight but hopefully just because I am not used to it. I suppose I could also try a bra extender? The fitter said I need a structured type and I did try on a couple of moulded seam free bas but the support was not there. The only thing I am not so keen on apart from the back fat is you can see the seam slightly but not as bad as some I tried on.

Yes, tightness from moving down two band sizes can take a bit of getting used to.

I think what the fitter meant are bras with a seamed structure rather than the moulded t-shirt type (which are hard to fit as they gape) as seamed bras tend to give more lift and support.

Can I ask again, are you scooping? If you have back fat, the cup is too small.

ilovekittycats · 18/06/2014 18:17

I make sure all the breast is in the cup but what do you mean by scooping? She was running her finger along/under the underwire whilst holding the strap.

It was me and someone else who mentioned them Smile
They are v good there

AnyFucker · 18/06/2014 20:18

I am a skinny Minnie though, and I have some back fat as the band is tight

I am used to it though and prefer the supportive feeling of a band that isn't too loose

Doesn't everyone over a certain age get some degree of bulge around back straps ?

As long as it isn't very visible through clothes I thought it was ok

Unless I missed the memo that skin tight clingy viscose tops are back in fashion ? Smile

KnittyNorah · 18/06/2014 20:25

I went wearing a 36C and ended up a 32FF - mind you there was a heck of a lot of scooping of boobage - it sounds like the cup is too small.

Kleptronic · 18/06/2014 20:33

I went from 36B to 34DD. Sideboob is now ensconced, no shoulder slippage and central gore lies flat. Absolutely made up I am, breasts don't ache at the end of the day any more! Who knew this was normal!

SorrelForbes · 18/06/2014 20:38

The last section on this page tells you how to scoop.

SorrelForbes · 18/06/2014 20:40

I'm definitely not skinny (10/12 - 30GG) and pretty much have a flat, smooth back. However, I scoop like buggery more than once a day Grin.

She was running her finger along/under the underwire whilst holding the strap. Hmmm, that sounds like she was making sure the wires were sitting in the right place underneath your breasts.

ilovekittycats · 18/06/2014 21:13

Well, I tried scooping and there doesn't seem to be any more boob in the cup area so maybe I just have a fat back LOL. The central gore is very flat between the boobs and it feels quite comfy even though the band feels tight but I probably just need to get used to that.

Before, when sitting down the straps would slip off my shoulders and now they don't. My measurements on that website was 33" band and 39" overall. She did start me in an F cup but that was too big. Now I know roughly the size I need I can look out for bras in that size and style although she did say it was quite supportive material in this type of bra even though it seemed the same as any other to me.

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 18/06/2014 21:34

Sometimes scooping doesn't work because there isn't any room in the cup for the extra flesh.

Straps slipping off shoulders is a sign of a band that's too big so you definitely needed that smaller band size.

Going on those measurements I'd suggest a 32E/F and a 34DD/E so not far off your 34D.

I'd try all those sizes when trying a new bra. Remember to try them on back to font first to test the band fit.

ilovekittycats · 18/06/2014 21:56

Sorrel, thank you very much for your input and I will definately be trying on some bras in the next few weeks. This was very expensive and will see how it goes over the next few weeks but it has opened my eyes to the size that I should be.

Funnily enough, I went to Victorias secret in USA when on holiday and the girl there suggested a 34" and I tried on a few that she suggested and my daughter and `i had a good laugh at how far out she was but maybe she was closer to the size than I thought at the time.

I have found out that what I thought was a good/ok/best of what I had tried fit (balconette) from M & S and a t shirt bra do not give me the support/shape that I need.
