Haircut advice

Hi, I want a haircut. Just a short pixie do. Sounds simple, really.

But I have been turned away from three hairdressers and told to find a specialist, because I have mixed heritage hair.

I live just outside Glasgow, the only specialists are more specialists in weaves, braiding etc. Even the afro hairdressing salons here (I think there are three?) do not profess to being experts in cutting.

I relax my hair, and use straighteners my blunt, full fringe. The rest I tie back. It is heavy and hot and takes 24 hours to dry naturally.

I hate it and I want it off, but with a style that allows me to keep my fringe, which I would happily side-sweep.

I do not have much money at my disposal, I just want a hairdresser. The last time I saved and went to a 'decent' salon, after a consultation they told me they wouldn't be happy to cut it:(

I feel like hacking it all off myself, it's amazing how unhappy the 'wrong' hair can make someone!

Any advice?

You could try going to a hair dressing school or college - the teachers should know either how to do it themselves or who would be able to help you, also if they do it as a demonstration, you might get it done super cheap! :)

Otherwise maybe plan a day trip down to one of the Newcastle/Manchester/London hair schools or salons. Loads of the big hairdressers have training schools in major cities and should be able to help with advice over the phone first before you decide whether to book.

Good luck!

I know you said you wanted a specific style but just wondering if they wanted you to get a specialist, couldn't you ask what they could do instead? Do they have an alternative way to make it look similar to what you wanted? Does that make sense?

Thanks, will maybe take a look at hairdressing schools, that is within my budget.

Childcare is an issue, so that kind of rules out long jaunts.

The last salon said I would end up with a short fuzzy afro at the back if they cut it, despite my assurances that I would be chemically straightening it, then having regular trims.
