IPL for legs and bikini

Has anyone had it and did it work?
It's my birthday today Wine and as a present I got a course of IPL for full legs and bikini (am going to check it's extended bikini Blush) and am very excited because I've always hated having to shave my legs every-frigging-morning!
But now I am wondering does IPL for legs etc really work and if so how soon will I see results?
BTW cake all round on me Cake

I had it done a few years ago and it was the biggest waste of £500. I have very dark hair and lots of it. Wish I'd never bothered!

I think it depends on various factors and also what you mean by "work". I've got a home IPL machine, and after 4-5 weeks' of use, my hair growth was slowed down, and I didn't need to shave as much. However, I then had to have a 6-7 week hiatus, and everything eventually went back to normal. The machine I use requires weekly treatment for 13 weeks, then I think monthly top ups, so not permanent hair loss. But fine by me, as overall it should cost less than waxing and I don't have to wait for the hair to grow back between treatments (as you shave before you zap).

Happy birthday. Probably no help but I'm 2 sessions into a course of 8 laser treatments. I've heard they are very different and that IPL is not as effective. I've practically bald and still got 6 left! Had top lip and full bikini incl the back bits.

Thanks for your replies!
Angie can I ask which laser you have and where ie SK:N or whatever salon.
I thought about laser, I want this to work and it isn't too late to refund the voucher so I could do that and look into laser maybe.

I would definitely change to a laser treatment. Local to me a salon advertises laser hair removal but when you get there and quiz them it's actually IPL and I think that's misleading to sell it in this way when it's a very different product so I walked away. I am having it at SKN in Cheltenham. Really happy with them. They are a big provider of laser hair removal and that's what appealed to me....I felt I was in good hands. The laser machine brand is Cynosure (I think). The woman said if it's IPL you can't be tanned at all whereas with laser they have machines that can do tanned and darker skins. Only downside to this is you have to be patch tested each time you change machine. So far I've just been on the normal machine but I know I'll need the other one for my August treatment as I'm going on holiday and will see the sun. It just means you can carry on being treated throughout the summer but with slight delays to allow for patch testing (oh, and you need to have been out of the sun for 2 or 4 weeks I think before you can be done). Sorry, I'm rambling on now.

Ok I have cancelled my IPL voucher and found a couple of bigger clinics near me that do laser only.
Angie can I be cheeky and ask how much you are paying for laser? I know it will be better to book a course but it's a lot for one area.
I want full legs doing and extended bikini but I will have to start with legs first I think and then go from there.
Does it hurt?
I've had IPL on my face a few times, well about 5-6 times (I have an electrologist who does both but I think her IPL machine must be rubbish because I can't say I've noticed much change at all although she swears it's going great! She is so expensive for IPL too although I am seeing her for electrolysis.
Minty You've done well to get a deal for laser on Groupon, they all seem to be IPL on there! How far apart are your treatments?

Not cheeky at all, the price for 8 treatments was £1200 for both areas, think it's was £350 for moustache and £850 for bikini. I think they may have a better offer on at the moment as it's summer and I started mine in April. Their website has the prices.

SirRaymondClench · 18/06/2014 22:18

Did you have to pay all that upfront Angie? Or are you paying in instalments each time you go.
Are you really pleased with the results so far? I'm very hairy (shave my legs every day!) so I am hoping this will give me smooth legs for once in my life!

I paid up front but I'm sure they do interest free if you spend over a certain amount. I am really happy so far, had the moustache done once and bikini twice and there's virtually no re-growth. You have to do a full course rather than stop at 2 or 3 as the course really tackles all the stubborn stragglers (part of the growth cycle and they explained that really well to me). You could always pay as you go but then you pay the single treatment cost which is more expensive
