Fake tan disaster

Dear collective,
I'm getting married at the beginning of August in a knee length dress. I'm naturally v v pale and normally not a problem so I never use fake tan. I decided to give a proper salon St Tropez spray tan a go yesterday. Well, I'm glad I did as I look like Dickie Dickinsons not so glamourous assistant!
The overall colour on face arms and thighs is good but hands lower legs and feet are orange and horrifically patchy. I'm a bit disgruntled so will head back to the salon to show them. However, clearly this is not an option for my wedding day.
Beacause I'm so pale, I was wondering about putting in some graft for a couple of weeks with St Tropez everyday and being very careful with hands and feet. My shoes are ivory sling backs so heels must be OK

Any recommendations or dos and donts?
Thanks do much in advance. I'm so glad I tried this out when I did (so I can stay in the house for the next 2 weeks!Shock)

Hi

I've got really pale skin and have been using a Boots Self tan on my legs for 3 weeks know and it's made no difference at all. So I'm interested in any answers you get.

RE St Tropez spray tans: I have had St Tropez tans in the past (only about 4 times) - and have had wildly differing results. So I wonder if it might have been a one off bad experience? I used to use a fake tan place that had been recommended by a friend - and got a really subtle, not at all orange, glow that looked really good. The girl wouldn't spray me heavily as I'm so fair - so it only lasted about 4 days. But enough to feel better about getting my otherwise blue white legs out on the first few days of a holiday.

Then as a one off I went to another salon - and it was dreadful - blotchy and orange and I couldn't believe it was the same product!

I am pale. I stopped using fake tans years ago- they just do not suit pale folk.
I looked like Donatella Versace after a spray tan once-which someone assured me does not go on too strong or streaky....well if decking well did!!
Now I use tinted moisturiser. Gives a lovely glow, no streaking. I use this one, put it on at night, wake up with a glow. You can do it every day to build it up if you like, or just occasionally.
you do still need to wash the palms of your hands after application.

A gradual tanner would be better, and make sure you exfoliate first.

It sounds like a combination of poor preparation and an overly heavy-handed application.

St Tropez is green based (olive) so is better suited to darker skin. You'd be better off with a red-based tan such as XenTan or California Tan.

Choose your salon very carefully, as it's an art like make-up. Have only one light coating and ask how you should prep beforehand (e.g. oil-based/water-based moisturiser or none at all.

If you're very pale it may be best going with a gradual self tanner. Ultimo do a great one with has no smell and doesnt stain.

Good luck.
