Has anyone had a really bad reaction to leg shaving?

Yesterday morning I shaved my legs and this morning they are so incredibly itchy. They feel like they're burning and I just can't stop scratching them. I've put some Aveeno moisturiser on but its no better. I have red scratches all down my calves and some red bumps.
I've always had sensitive skin but not this bad. Has anyone else had this and what did you do to stop the itching?
I think I'm going to have to switch to waxing but how do you deal with the regrowth during the heat of summer?

Sorry I meant during the heat of summer when you want your legs out.

I always get this Hmm Have no helpful advice I'm afraid as I've never worked out a solution but watching with interest!

I get this. The only thing that works for me is using a sensitive skin shaving foam, a brand new razor not a cheapy one then covering my legs in coconut oil after they've been shaved.

Was the razor blunt? I get this sometimes when I use an old one. Try using sensitive skin shaving cream or hair conditioner that you know doesn't irritate your skin. You can get Aveeno body wash do have a go with that as well.

Always. I've tried various times over 30yrs and my legs cannot handle being shaved. They end up a bleeding, sore mess. I have very thick leg hair.

Waxing is fine and leaves them far less battered.

I get this to some extent if I'm not careful. As some have said, it's best to wax. I live in oz so legs out a lot - have a long skirt for regrowth times but also just hope that no one really cares Grin
If I have to shave I exfoliate legs with a glove the day before and moisturise. Use products for sensitive skin only. Moisturise after shaving as well, I add a drop of lavender oil. Seems to calm the irritation. And yy to new, high quality razor!

I cant shave or wax cos of sensitive skin. Epilator worked until it started to really hurt. I use the cream now which only irritates my skin for an hour afterwards. After that its fine.

Yes me! I couldn't shave my legs until I discovered satin care sensitive gel from boots and I shave using a King of shaves razor. Also sensitive shaving gel is ok too and a bargainous 89p!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/06/2014 13:08

Take some piriton, it helps with the itches! Moisturising makes mine worse.

I struggle with shaving as I seem to be allergic to every single brand and type of shaving cream/gel/foam. I now use an electric razor, far more convenient as i can do it wet or dry, no irritation anymore and I haven't had any more ingrown hairs. If I do wet shave, whether with my electric razor or a normal razor, I just use the suds from my normal shower gel as I can't use shaving gels etc. seems to work for me and means I don't end up with bright red, sore, dry, flaky and itchy legs.

Chiggers · 18/06/2014 15:00

Piriton before shaving and a cream with Benzocaine/Lidocaine or other local anaesthetic. I have used canesten cream as a last resort (I had nothing else in the house, shops were shut and I was desperate) and it worked surprisingly well, so that may be worth a try.

Try using a mixture of soap and hair conditioner (more conditioner). Shaving foam gives my sensitive skin a rash. Use a razor that has an aloe/moisturising strip on it and shave with the grain not against it. When my legs are very sore i can't shave upwards without irritating them further. I always moisturise afterwards with a plain cream, something like vasaline, the yellow one.
