watching with interest...
I've had 3dc's and I'm a size 10-12 and my stomach has that w pouch too.

Blossum123 · 17/06/2014 19:41

Moon girl - it's odd isn't it - mine almost looks like a bum and to make it worse it's bigger and baggies at one side than the other . I'm a size 16 I did get down to a 14 but it looked awful - even worse ! It's not noticeable with clothes on or even pants but it's not nice !

I didn't get it with my first pregnancy was just a bit baggy but the w shape has appeared since ?!

I have to sort of tuck it into my trousers Sad
I just presumed it was the indentation of my tight jeans but deep down I know it's not really.
I'm gonna google it and see if there's anything we can do!

TwoNoisyBoys · 17/06/2014 20:14

And me :/ didn't notice it too much when I was slimmer, but now I've gained 10lbs a definite W there.......

MsVenus · 17/06/2014 22:20

same here...Sad

Hebburnisaplaceonearth · 17/06/2014 22:24

Mine too after 2 kids, not after the first. my stomach muscles are still divided a bit and that doesn't help, plus bad stretchmarks. Still ok under clothes but my bikini days are over for sure!

Blossum123 · 18/06/2014 20:25

I just don't get why the odd shape x! But glad I'm not alone x

My stomach is a mess after two DC too. I am a healthy BMI (about 22) so not much weight to lose, but I have the W stomach. Its really weird. I think it goes up to the top of the W because my belly button is pulling it up iyswim. And it is puckered, crepey and horrid.

Blossum123 · 19/06/2014 09:58

I'm classed as overweight - when I lost weight it looked worse !

ooh yes, I have this two - I think it's a sign to build up some stomach muscles.

Stomach crunches anyone?

Hebburnisaplaceonearth · 19/06/2014 17:19

Except don't do stomach crunches if you have divided muscles because it will make it worse!

WhyBeHappyWhenYouCouldBeNormal · 20/06/2014 09:20

Oh! I didn't know that

What can we do then? what sort of exercise will help?

WillPenn · 20/06/2014 09:41

If you have divided muscles I think you need to go to a physio - though pilates also helps I think after you've had the physio. You need to build up your core strength again. I know someone who managed to fix the divided stomach muscles with physio/pilates but then someone else was beyond repair and she had to have an op to bring them back together again.

capsium · 20/06/2014 09:53

There is stuff on YouTube about this and exercises that they say can help.

However I don't think my own stomach muscles are divided. I did wonder, as my stomach has been slightly a different shape after DC, noticeable more when reclining I get more of a pinchable roll. I've always had a pot belly, even at my thinnest, but the 'overhang' is U shaped rather than W. Theu just gets slightly smaller / fainter when I am thinner.

There are plenty of images on Google of diastasis recti so you can compare!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/06/2014 10:15

Is this where you look like you have a bum attatched to the front?

Peers at own belly.
Bucket of tripe in an egg cup springs to mind...Sad

I'm doing a version of low carb (Low bloody everything TBH )
No fat (gallstone)
Vegetarian (no meat/fish.chicken)
No bread , pasta, (bloaty stomach)
No peas, lentils,
Not cut out dairy but I'm trying the lactose reduced

Very difficult but I am going through an isolation process.

I've had minimal cheese and no crisps for 2 months.

I'll let you know if it helps ....hopeful.

Hebburnisaplaceonearth · 20/06/2014 13:13

The key thing with having divided stomach muscles is to make sure you tighten pelvic floor and pull belly in towards backbone before you do any lifting etc, and be careful not to do straight sit up/crunches. You'll know if you have a divide if you try to do a crunch and feel the muscles around your belly button to see if there's a gap.
