stylish and comfortable slippers - do they exist?

I have never worn slippers in my life, being a bare footed kind of girl however... I now live in a house with very few carpeted rooms, mostly wood or tiles and my feet really hurt. In the winter last year the marble floor in our kitchen was freezing the previous owners didn't put underfloor heating in and it really needs it. So I was wondering if the solution was to wear some slippers with thick cushioned soles to solve the sore feet problem and also the coldness in winter.

having said all of that I know I won't wear them if they shout HOUSEWIFE and I don't know if there is such a thing as a stylish and comfortable slipper. Come on style girls - any suggestions?

I think stylish and comfortable are always mutually exclusive, not just for slippers also for shoes, clothes, cars etc. You could buy a pair of summer sandals for indoor use only and use them as slippers, or you could buy some plain slipper socks with the non-slip thingies on the bottom.

nice ones in per una

but then I love slippers...cold feet and freezing houses...

JackieNo · 06/09/2006 13:23

Love my slippers too. Have something similar to these , but suspect that they're exactly what you're trying to avoid.

dh and I have UGG slippers, my mum always brings them back from Oz for us

here They are snuggly and warm and even fine to wear out occasionally (someone said COOOL shoes to me in corner shop recently when I was too lazy to change them to buy a pint of milk )

JackieNo · 06/09/2006 13:27

Bit wacky . Or something prettier here or here . Not sure how warm the second and third links would keep you, though.

I wear sheepskin slippers from celtic sheepskin company
They are expensive (£40!) but my feet don't sweat in them (like in synthetic fleece lined ones) and they are so warm and so comfy. They have a hard sole so I can wear them in the garden if need be and they are machine washable.
dh is very opposed to slippers but I think I am going to buy him some anyway. He will thank me eventually...

Boden are doing slippers at the moment too
(but not as nice as my CSS ones).

Orlando · 06/09/2006 13:29

monsoon have some nice ones

(I can do links, hurrah hurrah hurrah...)

Sherbert37 · 06/09/2006 13:31

Have sheepskin ones on from Next as I type - my feet are freezing.

DaddyCool · 06/09/2006 13:32

what about these bad boys?

Bozza · 06/09/2006 13:34

at the prices of these slippers!

Glassofwine · 06/09/2006 14:27

god, you guys are good. I'm afraid that yes, JackieNo that is what I'm trying to avoid - I know I just won't actually wear them. I do however quiet like the Boden one, which comes as a shock as I normally hate Boden (except kids) - just now have to justify spending £35 to DH. Cheaper heating in the winter perhaps? thank you all

sherbert - are the Next ones real sheepskin? All the ones I've seen there have been synthetic.
