I've never had my eyebrows threaded...

But I think I'd like to. I live in an area where there are lots of Asian beauty salons which do threading. I have thick eyebrows and pluck them everyday to keep them under control.

What happens when you go for eyebrow threading? How often do you have it done?

I've done them for years & while painful they do give you the best shape possible. Also it's better for the skin than waxing (doesn't stretch the skin as much so fewer wrinkles later)

If you get any redness or spots, try to run an ice cube over the skin to soothe it. Avoid any creams/gels etc. & don't go in the sun after having it done until you can ice it.

Worth the effort, but I need it done every 2 weeks or I start looking ill!!!

I had mine done once. It wasn't painful at all...until I looked in the mirror.
The woman had made them so small and thin it was like she'd penciled in a couple of inch long lines! I could have cried. I was due to go to a wedding two days later too!
Make sure you tell her what you want doing.

I really fancy this but the whole chair in full view of a shopping centre puts me right off...

Thankfully have found a lady who does it at her home so I am going there where I can sneak home after looking like a clown in private

Lottapianos · 18/06/2014 12:10

I stopped plucking about a year ago after 20 years of over plucking. Regrowth has been slow and they are way too thin still. They are quite straggly though - would threading be a good idea to tidy them up? I don't want them any thinner just neater if that makes sense?

RubyReins · 18/06/2014 13:46

Five quid, five minutes, no pain, amazing results. The woman who does mine has the loveliest eyebrows and she just pointed at hers and smiled before setting to work on me.

I had it done at a pricey place years ago and it hurt horribly and made me sneeze. Not so with this lady - it's a sort of fluttering and that's it.

Really recommend it - changes your appearance for the better for very little time and money. I love the place I go to but it is as far removed from a salon experience as you will find Grin.

Results/pain really depend on who does it (it's a bit like having your haircut).
I've used threading for my eyebrows for 15 years and it's only been really painful twice (they were both young girls, a bit too cool for school, in general I'd try to use local, older asian women).

Try to get a local recommendation and don't be afraid to tell them how thin/thick/what shape you want and that you're worried it will hurt Usually they'll be extra gentle if they know you're nervous.

I'm going to go against the grain and say that the more expensive threading I've had was far superior in shape and precision. But I go for the cheaper option now and if I'd never tried the expensive one I wouldn't notice the difference.

Waxing left my eyebrow skin red and sore but threading never has (and I have v sensitive skin).

Upper lip is a whole different ball game though, agony and very sore for days!

KoalaDownUnder · 18/06/2014 16:41

Sooo..,what's better about it than waxing?

I ask because I really like my waxing lady, but dear God, she is expensive. I pay it because I think with waxing it's all in the shape - so you need a person who understands what you're after, IYSWIM.

So I don't really get how threading can get blanket 'better' or 'worse' results than waxing. Isn't it all just ripping the hairs out?

Flugelpip · 18/06/2014 17:54

I think they can be more precise with threading - they leave a more natural looking edge as it's not as comprehensive as waxing (so you have the small hairs that make your eyebrows fuller). They can stop and reverse if they've caught hairs they intended to leave. Generally a softer look grows back less patchily too. I go to a local Asian beauty salon where it costs £3 and takes three minutes and they do a fabulous job. Ask them to just tidy it up if you're nervous, but my experience is that they have quite full, nicely arched brows themselves and that is what you get.

Fcukfifa · 18/06/2014 19:16

I have over plucked (bloody sugar and their 'guides' to plucking' in the noughties) eyebrows. Totally have no shape.
I now get them threaded and somehow they appear thicker after!

I've never had my eyebrows threaded...
Fcukfifa · 18/06/2014 19:17

Oh and tinted too

Primadonnagirl · 18/06/2014 19:24

I am an absolute convert. I am v pale with dark hair and a lot of it. Waxing brought me out in terrible red spots and my eyelids actually tore a couple of times. Threading has been a revelation. It stings a bit on my upper lip but it's soon over.My eyebrows last about 4 weeks, can leave my upper lip about 6 weeks. You do go red afterwards but that's to be expected. And there's no reason why threading should make them any thinner. You just need to explain what you want.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 18/06/2014 19:27

It FUCKING kills !!!

But you get nice eyesbrows after! Mine cost a fiver Grin

starsandunicorns · 18/06/2014 19:32

I get mine done plus has dp had his done too

KnittyNorah · 18/06/2014 19:53

Take 2 paracetamol half an hour before and NEVER get it done whilst you are menstruating. Pain is much worse during.

GoshAnneGorilla · 19/06/2014 19:00

Pain does vary hugely depending in who does it.

Some set about you like you've slept with their husband, others are far more gentle.

I have my brows and chin done, I still have to have my lip waxed, that's too painful.

An Eyptian friend has her armpits waxed, the thought of that makes me wince

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 19/06/2014 19:09

If you live near or in an Asian area it's so good to go and get your hair removal sorted. I pay. £7/8 for eyebrows and bikini line.

I don't find it unbearable.
