Could you recommend shampoo & conditioner without the nasties

Currently using Treseme shampoo & conditioner for frizzy hair and then a silicone glossing serum. I have naturally wavy hair (not coloured) which I comb wet, apply serum and scrunch and leave to dry into waves/curled - it's below shoulder length.

It still often looks dry at the ends and not glossy. I recall reading that switching to products without sulphates and silicone often reaps benefits. What should I be looking for?

Jason's is also good and comes in a huge bottle

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. The Loreal range had one of its shampoos and one of its hair masks (conditioners) massively reduced so bought those to start my sulphate free trial! Got 3 of each as less than £2 each :)

Also got a Loreal spray oil to replace my silicone serum with (just bought one but it was reduced to £3 something.)

Decided at this point to get shower gel & hand wash too (in for a penny...). Got Naked Rose scented body wash (half price) but Boots do not sell any sulphate free hand wash at all so no joy there!

I assume if a product says "sulphate free", "silicone free" that's what I am after but what about if they don't state this - what are the actual names to avoid in ingredients lists? I'm going to find a hand wash and have a real trial! Would my No7 face cleanser have these in? Need to learn and understand more!

I'm about to test out the no-shampoo method... 1 tbsp of bicarb in 1 cup of water followed by a vinegar rinse. Sounds completely mad but I happened upon the idea a few days ago & thought I'd try it! It's definitely got no nasties! Grin

Ive started using Naked and hate it!
My hair looks worse than it ever has and I can't wait to finish the stuff.
I bought the one for normal-dry hair.
The shampoo barely lathers- that's to be expected- but the conditioner doesn't seem to do anything at all. My hair looks 'ratty' but more fly away.
I've also used Organix- the coconut one and the argon oil- and they were better but still not wonderful.
I'm on the hunt too- my small Boots doesn't seem to stock the L'oreal Elvive ones.

Ab this will be because you arent using silcine which masks damage. If your hair feels a bit ratty I'd suggest using some deep moisturising or reconstructive masks to try and repair from within.

Joicos kpak treatment is packed with protein and is great stuff.

Thank you for the link Scarlett and for all the other info everyone. Will print off the list and check what I own and what else I buy.

Did my last shampoo with a sulphate product this morning then switched to sulphate free conditioner & hair oil and will now use all sulphate/silicone free on my hair each day. Tried the curly girls hair "plopping" thing with a big t-shirt but could get the knack of it. Also felt v odd not combing my hair through whilst wet.

Will report back!

Aveda products are amazing - their Brilliant line is fabulous.

Scarletohello · 20/06/2014 14:27

If you want a relatively inexpensive product Bodyshop Rainforest range is v good. Can also get 40% off vouchers online too! :)

ExitPursuedByABear · 20/06/2014 14:29

I second Aveda. You can buy the products on Amazon.

No nasties, and only pure Swiss mountain stream water.

I may have made that last bit up
