These shoes did it for me:

Has anything had a similar effect on any of you? :)

Two pairs of shoes from M&S - same style but one pair black, the other red. Probably about six years ago. Got the red pair off eBay for £5 brand new about a year later and the black ones for £5 last year.

Also a long black Pearce II Fionda dress from Debenhams in the mid 90s, and a skirt which was basically the dress but without the top IYSWIM.

Back then in the sale the dress was around £80 and the skirt £45 (I think) and there was no way I could afford them really.

Got the dress off eBay last year for 99p and the skirt a couple of weeks ago for £7.50 with a top to go with it!

Leopard print pony skin pointed wedge boots from Marks & Spencer last winter - WHY didn't I buy them? They were discontinued and I keep looking for them on ebay but no joy...

mswibble · 15/06/2014 21:40

furrymuff they sound fabulous. Totters off to eBay just in case any size 8-er is clearing out! I love ponyskin anything but leopard and dalmation print are faves.

Yes. A purple velvet Jacket in a Liverpool boutique over 20 years ago. I was signing on at the time and even considered taking out a crisis loan to pay for it. I still remember it but alas never owned it Sad

yes, last week in Italy I saw this woman. She had an oversized khaki parker over a simple black dress and brogues on her feet. That sounds rank but she looked amazing. I want to look like her.

Two things. I bought a leather bucket bag in Florence, 20 years ago. I knew I had to have it though couldn't really afford it. I have used it consistently, ever since. I have a Mulberry (DH bought for me, as a surprise) and it vies for attention with my Florentine favourite. A LOT of money at the time but well worth it.

Second (not clothes, again) an item of makeup I bought in New York. I have tried to replace it many, many times but cannot. It is my all time favourite and the empty container sits in my drawer, as I even love the smell of it.

I'm not one for clothes so much. More an accessories kinda girl! Smile

A floor length satin silver skirt by a famous designer but I can't remember which. Could have been Armani. It was really full and a kind of silvery grey, and really only any good if I had an oscar to accept (which at the time I didn't). It was about £900 and I would have needed to buy a top as well anyway. I saw it in Harvey Nichols about 10 years ago and still think about it now.

It looked a bit like the one above by Jenny Packham

A black velvet jacket. I've looked at the website several times a week for about two months now. I was reading this thread earlier and though about that jacket straight away. Then I got a discount code through about 10 minutes ago. It's obviously a sign so I've ordered it!

There was also a beautiful pair of victorian style boots, but the largest size they did was 41 so I'll never find any to fit Sad but I still think about them

furrymuff · 23/06/2014 13:38

Gator I bloody LOVE you!! That is them, and I have just ordered them, thank you so much Grin

A gorgeous Issa silk all in one trouser thing.

I think I could have worn it about 3 or 4 times since, which probably would have still worked out more than £100 a go. But it was loooovely! Sad

frillyskirt · 23/06/2014 13:43

A basket weave sweater by Vanessa Bruno, possibly AW2012, been trying to replicate it since and no joy.

Many years ago I saw this dress on a website (Reiss, Hobbs or something similar) and I fell in love with it.
I still really would love to own this dress but it's impossible to find - it doesn't help that I don't remember the brand...

I live in hope of my favourite red patent shoes from Hobbs coming up on ebay. They died after years of wear.
There are a few things I think of after 25 years or more! One dress I couldn't afford, another that my then (vile) boyfriend told me made me look fat (at five eight, eight stone, 28F 23 36!!) and I was young enough to believe him. I can still see that dress in my mind!! aargggh.

HowAboutNo · 23/06/2014 13:59

No - I know that if I go home and can't stop thinking about it (consumerism, much!) then I must have it and I go and buy it. Even if I'm broke!
