Different in a good way? Bad way? Mutton or just "Meh"?

I am 42. Big norks (32FF) size 10-12, wide shoulders, OK everything else. I have freckly, very pale skin, blue eyes, brown curly mop hair. And whooo hooo I am nearly feeling fabulous after several years of ..meh .

Going to a wedding in August. Sick of £100+ wedding outfits loitering accusingly in my wardrobe. Want something a bit different. Or maybe something just less £££. I have zilch style. Do not do super trendy. Probably describe myself as classic-with-a-twist.

Ordered this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IS91VD0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 In the pale blue/white spots.

It has arrived. Tried it on and I like it. It is quite fun. Will be cool if is hot on the day. Can run around after the DCs. Norks look big - but fuck it - they are big - am sick of trying to hide them. Good length on me (I am quite short so it sits nicely above my knee but not too short.

Or am I deluding myself? Would I be a bit mutton-dressed-as-lamb? Is it really just a bit silly?

If you think it is a goer - what shoes/styling would you do with it (see, clueless). I hate heels with a passion - what could I wear with it which are not going to cripple me?

Thank you

I really like it! I can imagine it with red shoes. Maybe a pair with a very small wedge heel.

If you have an hour-glass figure and tons of sass, that will be just splendid.

Contraryish · 13/06/2014 13:11

I am of a similar age and norkage. Love the dress, but my concern would be getting a bra that goes under it as I haven't had much luck finding strapless or halterneck in my size ... if you can do that, I say go for it!

Floisme · 13/06/2014 13:12

Ooh I wish I had the figure - and the arms - to wear that, lucky you!

I don't do heels either and I think it would fine in flats, maybe in a different colour.

UnderEstherMate · 13/06/2014 13:14

I love it. I am ordering one right now!

CambridgeBlue · 13/06/2014 13:15

I think that's gorgeous! I'd definitely wear it (might want to cover my arms though) - I am a similar size up top and I think you should make the most of it. I agree getting a suitable bra may be tricky though, nothing worse than one that shows or is uncomfortable.

I've had a quick squint at 50s dress patterns on Google images. Any heel height including ballet pumps. I wouldn't wear eye-catching shoes tbh as that might look a bit try hard. I'd go for something quiet and/or elegant as it's a wedding.

Lovely dress, similar to these ones that I am having difficulty choosing as they are all lovely. My favourite, the mayan princess, is out of stock boo hoo!

I think it's very pretty. Hush puppies do nice shoes with a lite heel and are v comfortable.

Red shoes might be a bit too Dorothy! But I like the dress.

Brilliant....I have ordered (and awaiting delivery) of the Wonderbra Ultimate strapless bra thingy that everyone was raving about on an earlier thread. Will try on together and see how it looks.

So any height shoes may be OK? Any suggestions? I have a lovely navy Hobbs clutch I was hoping to be able to use again...so was thinking blue shoes of some sort. Would a navy clutch be OK? Navy shoes too - or something else?

I have a vast selection of cream/white/blue/pale blue shrugs, scarfs, cropped cardigans etc etc so am not worried about the "what if it is cold" scenario. My arms are not as tones as some people's but they are not horrific - and certainly OK to get out!
