I need accessory advice please. The first one is the 10th dress along on the Topshop dress section (sorry, it defies links). A chocolate colour shift dress. I thought I could wear it with jeans underneath, also footless tights, also woolly tights, does that sound good? And I saw some lovely green glass type small beads in TS, do you think they might be good or any other ideas?

The other dress is from New Look and is what I call a prom dress type thing - little straps, beige and black flowers, nipped in waist, full skirt, bit of net at the bottom. Hmm, sounds naff but is really nice. I may post a picture. I don't have beads or shoes for that one - wore with ballet shoes but a bit dull really. Any ideas pls?

ooh, I like the Topshop dress - very good over jeans. Not 100% sure about with tights, but if it fits nicely through the chest and waist it should be fine. The smock-type dresses that hide the figure completely can look v weird with slim stockinged legs poking out the bottom.

Would think accessories needed to be quite bold as anything too small or pretty runs the risk of making the dress look twee. Something that picks up the 60s vibe, like chunky bangles or bead bracelets, might work.

Prom-type dress sounds fab also - nipped in waist very good. I'd wear it as an everyday dress with ballet flats as you suggest and probably suggest wedge mules or similar for going out - skinny strappy heels and prommy dress always looks a bit tacky to my eye. Could also work for winter with black jersey and tights - the nipped-in waist stops poking-out legs looking gangly.

do you need me now Mrs Badger is here?

harpsichordcarrier · 05/09/2006 12:37

going out now anyway

MrsBadger · 05/09/2006 12:39

no, no, come back!

(am still not entirely sure why F&Z trusts me so implicitly - I could be a hairy-handed trucker who gets a kick out of dressing people badly...)

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2006 12:43

Oh thanks MrsB

The shift dress really fits well, I mean it is a bit tight tbh. For some reason shift dresses seem to look ok on me (maybe because they make everyone look a bit straight up and down?) I quite liked the idea of it looking twee actually Looking twee and fragile was quite an appealing thought to me (it is not going to work, is it?)

I have never worn wedges - I was thinking about maybe some backless mules with a very low heel and a long skinny toe, would that be any good (for the prom dress this is)? How about jewellery for the prom dress, something like a choker?

here

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2006 13:06

Too late Kristina she has huffed

Well MrsB I felt we bonded over the zebra dress and the shoes and so on you helped me pick were just spot on. Plus I have never seen you in your pjs with your hair in pigtails, which does somewhat colour my view of HC's own personal style

do you think she will flounce....we havent had a good flounce for AGES

....a zebra dress???? [ opinion of Mrs B as style guru shaken ....]

KristinaM · 05/09/2006 13:09

well I got to bond with HCC on November babies. so there

MrsBadger · 05/09/2006 13:19

see your point on the fragile-and-delicate front for the brown dress, it was little-girl-cutesy I was trying to avoid so we may not be at cross purposes after all.

Kitten-heel mules v good with prom dress. I may need convincing re long skinny toes, but I am large of foot so have a personal aversion to them and you may be able to pull them off.
Choker is a good idea but may require hair to be up to get full swan-like elegant neck effect - pendant or one of those illusion multi-strand necklaces may be less demanding. (NB This outfit sounds like a better bet for fragile-and-delicate than the shift dress)

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2006 14:09

I must point out the zebra dress was not in fact zebra, it was very stylish indeed

Yes the long skinny toe thing was an error, I don't know what I was thinking of. But you know those sort of little mules, anyway, that sort of thing. Where could I get some of those for not much money?

The prom dress necklace - just some very plain string of beads / pearls? Anyone feel up to some linkage for me?

MrsBadger · 05/09/2006 14:22

when is prom dress for? if pub-on-a-friday type, beads, shell pendant etc fine; if something dressier it can take a bit more.

am all linked out at the mo, but try New Look, DP and Topshop for the shoes; also Debenhams have been having a sale (have my eye on some delicious little brown suede kitteny mules but they're not reduced far enough yet)

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2006 20:53

Well, it's probably for dinner in a restaurant sort of thing, or a party.

Thanks a lot MrsB, I hope I don't ask you to help out too often and wear out your kindness
