comfortable but smart round-toed shoes for autumn?

Not feeling inspired. Need some comfortable shoes for autumn. I walk a lot when I'm not parked in front of the computer so they can't be pointy-toed or high-heeled but I don't want to look a frump in them. Have to go with a trouser suit or a skirt as well as jeans.

Can anyone help?

boots not an option?
Some killer buckled ones in Clarks that keep being referenced in magazines as Hot Hot Hot for Autumn. Actually Clarks have several round-toed Mary Janes with a bit of a heel but not 100% sure how well they'd go with jeans.

Any chance of shrinking the brief? There are lots of businessy shoes that'd look great with everything except jeans; and lots of flats / boots that'd look good with everything except skirts...

MrsBadger, do you reckon those Clarks ones would work with a skirt? Couldn't really wear them with jeans (unless skinny jeans tucked in) as would be too bulky.

MrsBadger · 05/09/2006 12:35

oh, definitely with a skirt - I want them to go with my knee-length cord skirts.
Hadn't thought of the bulk of buckles under jeans - guess one would have to try in the shop and see. My trousers generally aren't tight where the buckles are but I can see it'd be a problem if yours are.

And no skinny jeans for me, esp not tucked into boots. I'd look like a pantomime hero.

Now I just need to find a knee-length cord skirt in a maternity size 6 (ha ha ... why don't maternity clothes manufacturers cater for us tinies??)

I don't do skinny jeans either - at 5'1" they make me look short and dumpy, even though I'm really slim. I still prefer the bootcut shape on me - somehow it balances me out.

could make it two pairs Mrs B. Wish I could wear knee high boots but my calves never fit in. They got stocky when I did aerobics a lot. Now I have slim thighs but not the calves to match unfortunately.

Like some of the ones on those links. Had a very quick browse in one shop before picking up dd from school but didn't see anything I like.

I've been eyeing up those boots too- they're fab.

Bink · 05/09/2006 19:49

ooh, I'm embarrassed saying this (so middle-aged) but: M&S? I have just got some shoes for work, and one pair is a lowish-heeled round-toed pump - matt black leather with patent toe (which I think always looks sort of "finished") & little ballet-type ribbon tie. They would go with both trousers or skirt (which is why I got them).

M&S shoes always so comfy too ...

They had some livelier ones too if those described above are too deadly dull.

SSSandy · 05/09/2006 19:55

Hi Bink
probably am middle-aged though I still feel about 25 on the inside! Unfortunately we don't have M & S here but I know the kind of thing you mean.

Think I'll have another look around a couple more shops tomorrow. Feel I need to spruce up my appearance a bit but I can't stand aching feet!

Josef Seibel are always really comfortable, but again these are Mary Janey.

SSSandy · 10/09/2006 16:44

Ok I got some Josef Seibel brown leather boots. Seem to be made quite small, had to get 2 sizes bigger than usual.

Then I bought a pair of knee-length boots, flat with round toes and made of very very soft leather. I did get into them - but only just. The cobbler said he can widen them 1-2cms so that's that.

Merci!
