I kind of want to like them and not just because I am cheap

I can't quite visualise how they could be worn so as not to look like a teenager on patchouli.

I love the idea of some brightly coloured ones for camping...(this would be a very specific type of camping without rain and with order and thick duvets)...

I dunno. Help me.

I've never seen them before. They look ideal for people who don't need to go to the loo frequently! Wink

Sigyn · 10/06/2014 22:23

lol that is a good point

maybe no good if you've given birth then

What the hell would you wear on your feet with them?

All the pictures have bare feet which is generally quite frowned on in central London, or the Tube, IME.

Flip flops, any of this years 'ugly' sandals like Birkies or slides.

reddaisy · 10/06/2014 23:12

I loved these when I was travelling! And they are really easy when you get the hang of them. I don't think I would wear them now though, sorry!

Floisme · 10/06/2014 23:43

I bought some at a festival about 20 years ago, never wore them and have no idea where they are - though probably the same place as my belly dancing top.

ShevelKnievel · 10/06/2014 23:54

Ooo I used to wear those when I was 16, I'd forgotten them.

butterfliesinmytummy · 11/06/2014 02:32

I have a pair that I used to wear in Thailand, with flip flops and a white t shirt. They're hanging in my wardrobe now but if I wore them in the USA, people might stare. I'll keep them for gardening I think.....

Floisme · 11/06/2014 07:03

I might have actually worn them if they'd fitted properly and hadn't been as faffy. The idea's a good one: the look of a long skirt but the freedom of trousers. And very forgiving.

Sigyn · 11/06/2014 07:05

I think the concern I have with them is that basically, you have a load of bunched up fabric around the waist. I can't see how that's going to work...

TroyMcClure · 11/06/2014 07:06

Don't. They're ugly

Floisme · 11/06/2014 07:14

I don't remember any bunching but it was 20 years ago and I only wore them for a weekend. I thought I looked fabulous ... but it was a festival and there weren't any mirrors Grin

Some of the fair trade shops have got nice wide leg linen trousers with yoga waistband. What about some of those? Or harem trousers?

Saganoren · 11/06/2014 09:41

They were all the rage when I lived in Australia, many years ago. I don't remember bunching either or loo troubles but they are suited to hot, beachy climates (Thai fishermen being the clue) and they are certainly not a good look on the over 40s. Wear with a vest top and flip flops.

Sigyn · 11/06/2014 09:42

Ah.

are they like shorts for those of us who should not wear shorts?

EyelinerQueen · 11/06/2014 09:46

How to wear those trousers:

  1. Set time machine to 1996.
  1. Join All Saints.
  1. Relinquish all sense of style and dignity.
Deathraystare · 11/06/2014 09:56

Nope. Cannot see the point.

For me personally, if I wore them, I would need a fisherman's knife (the one he guts fish with) to cut myself out of them on my many desperate 'want the loo' moments. This is why I also don't wear playsuits/jumpsuits.

Karbea · 11/06/2014 10:23

I wouldn't wear them either, they look scruffy and cheap.

Sigyn · 11/06/2014 10:44

yeah, they are for camping and festivals really though

deathray there are so many reasons why I don't wear jumpsuits but I think basically eyelinerqueen has covered it

The harem pants that are everywhere at the moment would be just as comfortable and easier to wear.

Sigyn · 11/06/2014 10:48

oh dear nn to harem pant on me

I need a wide leg

harem pants make me look like a toddler
