Interview attire - help!

SunshineofRay · 10/06/2014 20:12

Been out of the game for a few years, job hunting so need to get something to wear to interviews
Havnt really got a great deal of money (strictly high street)
I'm a pear shape so would prefer a skirt to trousers but I have no idea what's acceptable these days!

What's your budget and what field of work are you in?

tethersend · 10/06/2014 20:48

And size.

tethersend · 10/06/2014 20:54

Suit for £20- skirt and jacket

tethersend · 10/06/2014 20:59

lovely dress but £££

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/06/2014 21:01

[[http://www.marksandspencer.com/grosgrain-shift-dress/p/p22278213 This dress] is much nicer irl than the awful pics here would suggest.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/06/2014 21:03

Nice jacket

tethersend · 10/06/2014 21:37

Hello Remus- saw this today and thought you might like it. Not 100% cotton, but a bargain.

SunshineofRay · 11/06/2014 07:16

Budget is under £50 and I'm a 10 on top 12 on bottom, line of work is education (specifically primary school)
Will have a flick through suggestions so far shortly Smile

I'm in the midst of interviews too! Its so warm and I find summer interview attire so awkward. I think I may go and pick up that house of fraser dress for an interview today. What shoes would you wear with it?

SuperFlyHigh · 11/06/2014 09:53

twoboots - in this weather closed shoes (think ballerinas) or very smart sandals that cover a lot of the foot. but enough for foot to breathe in if you see what I mean.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/06/2014 10:01

in a school I wouldn't waste my money on a suit you won't wear again ditto pencil skirt etc (unless you want to go smarter when/if you get the job). the 2nd wrap dress also comes in a print.

you can also buy a jacket (more on website) so brings you within your budget. HOWEVER, I'd try to borrow one from a friend save your money!

Good luck!

Though pretty, I think for an interview that first HM dress is too 'girly' and fussy. The second one looks too short, at least in the pic. I love the Jaeger one personally, though it might be a little hot in this weather.

SuperFlyHigh · 11/06/2014 13:24

Just tried on and bought the wrap dress (in black and white print).

I'm 5 ft 5 and it comes to just on my knees. so not too short for me.

jimmybim · 11/06/2014 17:53

this?

polyhymnia · 11/06/2014 18:07

Sounds a good choice given it's on your knee. I always tend to imagine things on my 5'9'' body!

polyhymnia · 11/06/2014 18:08

Also like the black and white version much better than the other.

RhondaJean · 11/06/2014 18:56

I really like that h and m dress.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/06/2014 20:11

Thanks, Tethers. It's okay - but I like that sort of dress to be v short (and cotton!) and her stuff isn't generally mini enough.

I saw this at the weekend, and it is gorgeous. Didn't try it on though.

tethersend · 11/06/2014 21:05

Was eyeing that one myself... Let me know what it's like on if you try it.

SunshineofRay · 12/06/2014 07:41

Be the h&m dresses, especially the polka dot
I also like the black\navy Mary portas dress
Tbh I hadn't really considered a dress, I don't now why because I wear causal dresses most days
Didn't have tome to try on but had a quick browse in h&m yesterday and they had some nice smart clothes so will get back tree over the weekend

What do you all wear for footwear? Would ballet pumps be acceptable? I can't really walk in heels very well!

And thank you for all the links Thanks

Ballet pumps are fine in my opinion. More practical for a school too I think.
