Do these exist? I need a cool dark brown so that I can stop spending £££ on Inoa at the hairdressers...

This is a good website for natural hair dyes. I have to say though, that i have the same problem as you, and it is a real problem. Most natural hair dyes are made from henna which is naturally red, although there are some indigo ones, but these are very dark brown. I recently tried the palate by nature one on this site, but it's very dark and made my hair feel like straw for the first few days. The best cool ash brown IMO is nice and easy semi but I've used chemicals on my hair for over 20 years and I've had enough now.

Thanks Eenie, I love the idea of using henna and indigo powders, but the stakes are a bit high Grin! Do you know how long a colour like this would be expected to last?

Ah, I see that lush have some natural hair dye bar things, that contain henna and indigo. I'm going to try them Smile.

Daniel field has some watercolours, which are natural.

I used lush henna bars for years, before that body shop (been dyeing my hair for a few too many years Blush )

lush is easy if messy to use. leaves hair so soft and shiny. only stopped using it as I would leave it on for 3+ hours and that isn't possible now with 2 kids

lasta for agrees too and fades rather than leaving big tram lines

This article gives lots of info on "natural" dyes. Also gives examples and links to places to buy. Daniel field isn't as good as it claims to be, in the natural credentials anyway.
Yy to henna and indigo fading rather than growing out

Can you use lush henna if you're pregnant?

WastingMyYoungYears · 10/06/2014 17:47

Thank you for all of the useful info Smile!

I use all sorts of combinations of the Lush henna, but I would say the colours are warm not cool. I haven't tried the Noir one on it's own though. You get a less reddish effect if you leave it uncovered on your head, covering it (eg with a shower cap) intensifies the red. It does give an amazing gloss to darker hair, but not so much to lighter hair.

I'm not sure what happens if you use it over chemical dyes but it is permanent. It isn't a block colour, but akin to using a coloured varnish, so the natural colour does make a big difference to the finished effect.

I have dark-ish chemical dyed hair at the moment, and mid-brown natural hair. I wonder what will happen to it if I use lush bars Grin.

Mine is naturally dark brown, but very dull and faded round the edges. The henna gives it a lot more depth and warmth.
