Where do you shop?

I've just gone from early 20s to late 20s seemingly overnight. I had a baby and have realised that all the shops I used to shop in (Topshop, asos, H&M etc) are actually made for teenagers. Everything is cut out, bodycon, sheer panelled, micro mini and just totally unsuitable.

I've gone from a toned, slim size 6-8, c-cup to a slightly "plumpcious" (as my mum would say) 10-12 e-cup.

I've discovered Next, and I do like Whistles but they're very expensive and not great for curvier women.

Where else is there?

Don't discount oasis and H&M.

Oasis have some nice tops, longer essentials ones for about £18, pretty dresses and no sheerness, cut outs in sight.

H&M a bit of a minefield but tons of choice.

Boden etc if you like that type. I'm not overly keen on it, white stuff worse!

Massimo Dutti do nice stuff, nice than Zara in my opinion.

SuperFlyHigh · 09/06/2014 20:58

Also Asos curvy range and how about Great Plains though some of their stuff is stupidly expensive for what it is.

Millypiemummy · 10/06/2014 17:05

I'm a similar size and tend to shop in Joules, Fat Face, Boden. When I can find a 20% code, White Company Smile

Fcukfifa · 10/06/2014 19:18

I'm coming up to 27 and have two children and still dress mostly in topshop, but I do the more hippy boho-y styles, not so much the crop tops and tiny skorts Grin (mind you my 53 year old mil does and she looks fab!)

Have you tried Zara? I think you can make yourself a nice streamlined capsule wardrobe from there and look quite effortless.

callamia · 10/06/2014 19:23

I've just sent a bunch of suff back to Asos with a note saying 'i just want something non-maternity that i can fit my breastfeeding boobs in'. I give up with them.

I shop at Hobbs (sale mainly), gap, French Connection and cos.

SourSweets · 11/06/2014 12:24

Thank you. I love Zara but I find them similar to whistles in that they seem to be made for quite willowy women. Will give them another go though.

I'd forgotten about oasis so I will try them too.

I've looked at asos curvy but it all seemed to be the same stuff only bigger.

My style is quite eclectic, I love colours and patterns, vintage inspired dresses, skinny jeans, nothing too flowy as it makes me look bigger.

What about urban outfitters?

DiamondsAndRust · 11/06/2014 16:47

I'm 33 and still find the odd item in Topshop. Agree that many chains seem pretty youth-centric, but I think it's a case of having to be more discerning, rather than dismissing shops outright. Shopping trips definitely take longer nowadays, especially as I try to avoid synthetic fabrics where possible (couldn't care less about this when I was younger!)

My taste is fairly eclectic - I'm a fan of Cos and & Other Stories, and I also shop in Urban Outfitters, Zara and Gap. Have recently discovered Massimo Dutti - my mum's obsessed with them, and I'd always assumed they were for the more 'mature' end of the market, but they actually have some really nice, and reasonably priced, stuff.

SourSweets · 11/06/2014 21:48

Oh I know I just have to nitpick more, but it's so depressing wading through all the stuff that will look awful on me!

I love urban outfitters but again feel that it's made for size 6's. It's not altogether an age thing, just that younger people on the whole are smaller and slimmer, and I'm neither of those things now!

Never looked in Massimo, thanks for the tip.

I find warehouse good

littlegreengloworm · 11/06/2014 21:52

I'm 35 and I do get some things in H&M. A lot of my wardrobe is oasis. Pretty, maybe a little pricey but anything I have bought has lasted well.

Tesco is my low budget choice. Really good for fast fashion type stuff.

As a great I get an occasional top from Hobbs that I save for and look after. I just feel if you have one or two good dresses, you waste less money tht buying lots of Primark stuff.

MsVenus · 11/06/2014 22:07

I am 38 & shop from DP, Mango, Banana Republic, H&M, Zara, Primark, Massimo Dutti, Wallis, Debenhams, Warehouse, M&S and Next.

So quite an eclectic mix if shops but I browse around a lot & if I see something I like I will buy it. I start saving money now to buy in the Xmas sales from upmarket highstreet shops like Jigsaw, Whistles etc. I normally can't afford their prices during the none sale season.

It would be worth booking a free one hour appointment with a personal stylist at John Lewis for ideas which you can use as a template.

I'm in my early 40s and I shop all over the place. It takes me ages to find the right stuff at the moment. Off the top of my head, I have clothes from Oasis, French Connection, Gap, M&S, Next, Mint Velvet. (only one or two items from the last three)

Today I am wearing trousers from White Company (half price! no way would I have even considered them full price), M&S tshirt, H&M cardigan.

OneLittleLady · 11/06/2014 22:29

I shop everywhere really, from charity shops upwards. I save for some things and buy cheap for others. I have things from, primark, new look, top shop, boden, fat face, hobbs, Michael Korrs, Vivienne Westwood, phase eight, oasis, next, joules and others I can't remember off hand. price is not my main concern though I don't have a huge budget, my main priority is finding things that fit and flatter

LumionaMoonsplash · 11/06/2014 22:36

Dorothy Perkins, Ebay, TK Maxx, Sainsburys, Primark & Next.

CointreauVersial · 11/06/2014 22:48

Warehouse, Next, Mango.....

VarsityQueen · 12/06/2014 08:34

New Look, Debenhams, Matalan, Forever 21, Gap, Asda, Tesco, Next, House of Fraser, ASOS, Warehouse, Banana Republic, John Lewis, Esprit, M&S, H&M. Zara not great for disprortionately large busts. Quite like Dunnes and C&A in Ireland and Europe. Continental European high streets have more shops that seem suitable for all ages. I don't shop in Topshop, apart from jeans and sandals, or Miss Selfridge any more but keep an open mind on everywhere else. Wish there was a shop I could go where I'd know I'd find something in my style but that just doesn't seem to exist!
