Where do grown ups buy hair clips etc?

Help, am 37yrs old and don't want to buy hair clips that are plastic pretending to be metal from Claire's. Where do grown ups but better quality things? I'm looking for a couple of things to hold a messy twist in thick curly hair - one of those leather thingys with a pointy stick that goes through and a big sort of antique silver look clip.

Thx.

Stone-bridge.co.uk. Very nice clips for grownups .

Anywhere on the high street I can actually see before buying (to judge if they'll take all my hair)??
John Lewis? Boots? (It's a schlep into town to discover they don't do them).

Etsy, Accessorize, Boots. Try spin pins, they are brilliant in thick curly hair. Get mine in Boots.

Boots. I buy Kirby grips and metal free hair elastics.

H&M & Claire's -if you look past all the neon crap.

Stories.com www.stories.com -expensive shipping but usually lovely stuff.

Babyliss clips are usually in Home Bargains for 39p each -loads of different styles. I had a beautiful mallard green clip from there that I've lost Sad, at 39p I should have bought all of them!

Poundland and 99p stores often have random clips in, I saw an antique silver looking clip in Poundworld two weeks ago.

I miss the big brass hinged clips that you used to be able to get in chemists, they don't seem to make them anymore.

I got some nice bits from primark the other day... not clips that you're specifically after but some nice jewelled headbands that don't look childish, and some ribbon/scarf like material with some flexible wire inside it - looks good as a hairband or for putting my hair up in a messy bun.

If you are near London then Alexandre sell in Harrods and also have a shop on Sloane Street. They also have a website www.alexandredeparis-store.com/?changelangue=EN

Some of the fashion designs are vile but their essentials are classic and beautifully made. Harrods used to always have a big bucket at sale time which is where I got mine, no idea if they still do. However I've bought a couple at full price as some of the originals are in their second decade and look and behave like new so seems worth it to me.

I bought the best kirby grips ever from Boots.A hair stylist's brand.

They don't rip my hair apart when I put them in/ take them out because they are mostly smooth but have lots of rubber on the end for proper grip.

I'm not explaining it well - I bought more and chucked out all my old cheap grips.
