Rosacea, open pores - what to do?

Right up until I had my dd2, I had perfect skin - never even had that many spots in my teens.

However, for about 18 months now, my skin has been terrible. I get these spots and bumpy patches which last ages and my face often feels hot and looks blotchy. My pores are much more visible, and despite cleansing morning and night , I often wake up with spots which have clearly formed by blocked up pores.

Anyone got any good remedies or tips? I've tried using Dermalex and Dr Hauschka's Rose cream to some success but nothing ground breaking.

I've just tried Mirvaso (uk based, got it on private prescription), am really pleased with it, although i look so pale with it - i'm not used to seeing my "real" skin tone. Also seems to smooth out my pores and skin tone. It lasts for about 8-10 hours for me. I'm no redder the day after although i do feel flushed at night when it wears off but this lasts about an hout- i'm working up to asking my dr for it !

Mazerin. Ooooh. Thanks for sharing. That's really interesting to know. So far most reports/reviews I've seen were very negative but I guess I lot of people only put up reviews online to warn people off or complain.

I'm interested in trying it but also a bit of a chicken.

Did you get it directly from your GP??

MrsFlorrick · 11/06/2014 14:41

Sorry you said private script.

I may go and order some via one of the online pharmacies.

MrsFlorrick · 11/06/2014 14:42

Also do you apply it with before/after a moisturisers and put make up on top?

Sorry so many questions. You're the first "real" person I've come across who've tried it.

Thanks MrsFlorrick will ask for a referral.

i put on a tiny amount-it says use 5 pea sized blobs all over your face but i just use half of one blob and mix it with moisturiser, takes about 20 minutes to work and you can literally see your colour draining! I've only had it two weeks but seems ok,i actually went out on saturday night and had spicy food and wine without flushing-i put it on then late pm so it wouldn't wear off....so all still trial and error. I got it from an online pharmacy, they often have discount codes online so have a look around, mine was 50 .

Forgot to say, i wear it under make up like a primer. It seems to smooth out my skin weirdly, wonder if it is the vaso constricting effect? My thread veins also stand out a bit more as they can't hide behind the general redness!

LoonvanBoon · 11/06/2014 16:24

Oh, that's interesting about the mirvaso, mazarine. I'd ruled it out because of the reports of rebound flushing, & also because my skin's been pretty well-behaved for quite a while now. In a good phase like this I just have pink cheeks - in bad periods I have deep, painful flushes & look like a beetroot.

Sounds like it could be useful for special occasions / events where you really, really don't want to look red / flush. I wonder if the fact you're using less than the recommended amount is protecting you from major rebound? How long have you been using it?

It certainly sounds like it has a powerful vasoconstrictive effect - I wonder if I'd have loads of visible capillaries if the general pinkness faded? Maybe I'd look worse - all white with red dots! Grin

If it is rosacea, get the doctor to prescribe you tetracycline ( I think that's the name of the antibiotic). I suffered for ages with it, spent loads on creams etc and cut things out of my diet, and nothing really worked long term. Then I was prescribed the antibiotics and it disappeared. It's a long course, which put me off, but honestly, I wish I'd done it sooner.

Well I've finally got a docs appointment booked - not until 23rd June - but at least it's booked. And I've booked childcare so I can have a proper chat without one or both kids scrapping and moaning next to me.

I'll see what she says.

Thanks all.
