Going Grey

I've been colouring my hair for 2 or 3 years now (I'm 36). Only semi permanent, but today my hairdresser suggested I might need to try something "stronger". I'm a bit upset really, didn't expect to go grey this early. I'm not sure what percentage grey I am and didn't dare ask! But it is getting harder to cover up.... :(

Just wondered what age everyone else was when they were in this position. It makes no difference obviously as there's nothing you can do about it, but just interested

I'm 37 and about 75% grey on top of my head (which I have come to terms with - some people go grey early, some don't, luck of the draw).

I used to do a permanent dark colour over it to cover it up, but the regrowth was getting too hard to handle so I now just do a semi that's lighter than my natural colour - the grey goes blonde like highlights, it works really well.

My hairdresser keeps telling me I need to up the % of dye activator to get better coverage but I don't want better coverage because then I get a hard line of regrowth Hmm and I prefer the less flat look with the grey partially covered.

Thanks that's an interesting idea. I'm not sure I could handle having a "line" of grey gradually getting bigger every 6 weeks... I'll mention it to the hairdresser next time.

I had to do permanent dye from 28 to cover my grey. At 38, I was pure white round my face, and decided to ditch the dye - I have large areas of silver and the rest is 80% grey or so

I got a shampoo-in colour from superdrug ans use it most washes, it's great because it doesn't give a flat colour, the grey is just a lighter shade and no regrowth problems. My hair's very short though, that probably helps.
My plan is that one day when I realise it's grey all over I will cut it dead short and quickly grow out what remains then - ta-daa- I will have lovely spiky silver grey pixie cut Grin

I'm 33 and have had to dye my hair for about 4 years I think. I use permanent brown dye but have to do it every 3 weeks now because I have so much grey coming through.

I want to get highlights so that the blonde kind of merges with the grey and makes it less noticeable. Problem is, there's so much dark dye on my hair that highlights just go ginger.
