Shellac nails peeling off, any advice?

I had my first Shellac manicure last week and was loving it up until this morning. Woke up with one nail peeling off (not actual finger nail, just the shellac part) and now about four or five of them seem to be doing the same!

I've only had them 6 days so didn't really expect this to happen, especially not for the price!

Bit worried about touching them in case they come off even more and it damages my nail.

Any experience with this? Do you think if I contacted the salon they would fix it for me? It's a very reputable place. Fancy wall paintings and all that.

Definitely contact the salon. It sounds as if they haven't prepped the nail properly.

Thanks, will do. Glad it's not always a feature of Shellac!

Yes contact the salon, they need to know if it's to do with their equipment / technique.

I've given up on Shellac .mine kept chipping rather than peeling . you haven't had anything on your hands (or in bath) e.g. essential oils? that made mine peel off in no time once , so annoying, I thought they were invincible for a few weeks
Not used nail polish remover on toes?
what did the salon say?

Crutchlow35 · 04/06/2014 17:55

Shellac isn't good which is why I no longer use them. This happened all the time with me but given it is your first then I'd definitely go back to the salon.

PotOfYoghurt · 04/06/2014 18:02

Haven't used anything that I think would do it, nothing except normal hand cream.

Tried to call salon a couple of times but no answer, maybe they're on to the nail disaster sweeping the area?!

Will update when I get in touch with them... We WILL have nice nails (that don't chip and peel and cost a small pony regardless)!

Some people do just find their nails don't seem to keep shellac on but tbh the application of yours does seem a bit iffy.
They look a little thickly applied and if the polish touches the cuticle (as on your little finger at the side) they are more prone to come off.

Definitely get back to the salon asap.

CMOTDibbler · 04/06/2014 20:42

They look like they haven't gone right over the edge of your nail, ans as tutti says, they've gone to the cuticle edge which makes them lift as well.

I do my own shellac, so only ever have myself to blame, but if I don't go properly over the free edge they lift in a day or two

Hi are you on any medication. This has happened to me a couple of times and I had it done by two separate people.
If you are not on medication, I would suggest that the lady did not prep your nails very well before hand. A lot of beauticians are not trained properly to use shellac or have done short quick courses rather than proper training at college. I hope they refund you or give you an alternative treatment.

JustSquirted · 04/06/2014 21:02

I agree it doesn't look to be applied well. I'd go back to them and then start looking for somewhere else.

I get 4 or 5 weeks out of gel polish. Not shellac, though. They grow out before becoming loose and pickable at the bottom.

RiojaHaze · 04/06/2014 21:22

I don't have any problems with my shellac but my nail lady says to avoid anything with lanolin in it as it makes them lift.

What a mission to get these fixed. Went down to the salon and it's all been ripped out and they're refurbishing! Really convenient. So contacted the other branch a little way away and have an appointment to get it fixed there. They said they'll remove and reapply free of charge, and I'm hoping as it will be a different person applying them maybe they'll stay?

I am on quite a few different medicsti

Pressed too soon. Quite a few different medications if that's what's causing it, just wish they had said something beforehand.

Hopefully tomorrow it will all be fixed!
