Dinner with dh's boss: need to look effortlessly stylish!

Dinner in v fancy London place with dh's boss and wife.

As per title I need to look stylish and also as if I've made only a smidgeon of effort and that I don't only go to London once a year and then get confused about the (confounded new) Oyster card system.

Problem is I look a bit of a wreck and dress from the Fat Face sale page.

I am 50, 5'3, blonde and size 8. But not a good size 8 - a lumpy one with gruesome arms and legs.

Please help!

I like that Kimono faux, i'd cut the fringe off it though. It would be very easy to wear with a plain black tee

Thanks, Ronald. I will investigate the plum top at the weekend.

Go for elegance rather than frou frou.

A simple shift dress, shoes and bag and tasteful jewellry (not too much), groomed nails and hair, simple makeup.
Have fun!

Agree London is less dressy than other cities

Amazingly the Next stuff does look great. Or a classy jumpsuit.

Anything with a good blazer to tuxedo jacket

A power bag

Agree with everyone on the minimal, stylish look. A jacket, nice cami, some sort of neutral trousers that suit you... Eg.

i do like the look above. (Although doesn't she look like Jared Leto?! - is it Louise?)

I wore jumpsuits first time round (or flying suits as they were called then) and I believe I read somewhere that if one can remember a current fashion from when it was first in - then it's time to pass on it.

Jackets and trousers... one has to be careful in case one lends up looking like Sandi Toksvig (sorry Sandi) instead of Carla Bruni.

Agree with bestest - sure way to stand out as a tourist is to look OTT. Lots of good advice here about low key style.

Having said that, am wondering how sophisticated a restaurant that describes itself as offering ' sophisticated dining' actually is - but perhaps that description isn't theirs but from a restaurant guide website.

Love the phase 8 jumpsuit, and I hate jumpsuits generally. It definitely would be suitable.

I have the Next top in cream and plum - it's gorgeous!
