Hairstyler help for my frizzy curl mess!

MyMeMy · 04/06/2014 13:27

I've always dried my shoulder length medium thick loose curls with a diffuser on my Parlux hairdryer, but over recent months my hair just seems to have turned into a frizzy mess.

The frizz occurs regardless of which products I use (believe me I've tried millions), so now I'm wondering if theres an alternative drying method that will give me nice shiny curls... maybe one of the hot air brush stylers?

Any suggestions will be gratefully received, otherwise I'm going to have to find a large paper bag

You've tried frizz ease extra strength serum? Moroccan oil? Change of shampoo?

I'd be tempted not to dry it and leave it to dry naturally then use John Frieda secret agent to finish off.

Coconut oil I'd amazing left on over night and shampooed off in the morning.

Have you tried the Curly Girl method? It's basically not using any silicones at all (so Frizz Ease is out!) and not using harsh shampoos either.
It works well for me. Previously I had a big Frizz Ease habit and needed harsh shampoos to wash it out. Now I co-wash my hair with conditioner and use a non-SLS shampoo about once a week and it's in much better condition and much less frizzy.
I let my hair dry naturally most of the way and then just finish it off with the diffuser.

Have you heard about [[http://www.wikihow.com/Plop-Your-Hair "plopping"]? It doesn't work for me as my hair is too short (chin length) and so just makes it dry in a weird shape! I can see it working well on longer hair though - maybe worth a try?

I tried to go silicone free-it lasted a month, I've never had such awful hairGrin

I've just googled plopping-I used to do that in the 80's, who knew out was a 'thing?!'Grin

It not out

Thanks for replying! :)

Unfortunately, Frizz Ease and the morrocan oils are horrible on my hair, the individual hairs are quite fine, flyaway and porous so not suited at all.

I have tried the curly girl method, but struggled finding silicone free styling products that worked for me (everything I tried just made my hair lank and curls limp), so now I use silicone and sulphate free shampoo and conditioner but have to use a mousse containing silicone just to give me some control.

The 'plopping' looks interesting, and I will give it a go, but I cant see it working for me without adding any products :(

I use Boots Pink Curl Creme and Umberto Giannini Curl Friends Scrunching Jelly but my hair is fairly coarse and not flyaway so I'm not sure if these would suit you. Thought I'd mention them though as the Curl Creme is only about £1.50 and I think you can get trial sizes of the Scrunching Jelly

Also, have you seen the British Curlies website? They can be a little fanatical about the CG method but it's a really good source of product recommendations.

MyMeMy · 04/06/2014 17:50

BornToFolk, I tried both of those products after reading great reviews, but neither worked for me.

I think it might be an age thing, as I stuck to the same products and routine for years and my hair was lovely, only occasionally had to tackle a little bit of frizz :(

I've spent hours on the British Curlies web site and a fortune on products recommended there - I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm going to have to find that paper bag! Thanks all for taking the time to respond though x
