Joan Collins Make-Up . Anyone tried it?

The lipsticks look glam in their gold case .
But I'm always a bit dubious when a celebrity puts their name on a product (though JC is a star rather than a sleb )

Anyone tried it? Yay or Nay?

I didn't realise she was endorsing a range.

I will say, though, that I am very glad I took her advice on skincare from a Sunday supplement when I was fourteen (many, many years ago) to wear sunscreen every day. This was long before it was common practice, and certainly before foundations etc. contained it. I'm forty now, and don't have any wrinkles yet. So cheers for that, Joan Grin.

BOFster · 04/06/2014 00:21

None of that is to say that the make-up range will be anything special, but you just reminded me!

RonaldMcDonald · 04/06/2014 00:23

I'm sorry but I'm unsure that she's be luring me to a make up brand

She is certainly a make up connoisseur though

MyrtleDove · 04/06/2014 13:46

British Beauty Blogger reviewed some bits a while ago and it all seemed pretty good. Very glam retro-style packaging!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/06/2014 14:35

It looks dated to me. And it's on qvc which puts me off!

TheHouseofMad · 04/06/2014 14:45

Yes, I have tried the lipstick, Evelyn&Fontaine. Both very vibrant colours, which I tone down slightly with a lipgloss over thetop. The lipstick has a great texture, really good pigment, which lasts a long time. Love them. Very good quality at very reasonable prices.

Milmingebag · 04/06/2014 18:50

I am tempted as they are made in Italy and other Italian make up I have tried has been in a different league (Collistar) to the stuff available here. I have a similar colouring as well and always wear a bold lipstick so I can see it working.

MyrtleDove · 04/06/2014 19:08

Dame not sure why being on QVC should put you off - there are loads of very respectable brands on QVC now (L'Occitane, Philosophy, Liz Earle etc). The beauty section is probably one of the best parts of QVC now, along with their kitchen stuff.

ohmymimi · 04/06/2014 19:47

And, if you buy from QVC you can send it back for a full refund - even if you have used it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/06/2014 19:18

I really covet the powder compact and lipstick, I;ve been looking for a nice gold case (shallow) but there's only certain brands I want to buy.

I'll buy one and see (but not red, I can't wear red lippie Sad )

YY to QVC though, I buy loads of my beauty products on there, I'd rather watch endless a nice 4 minute demonstration that go to those scary looking Sales Counters

I also love watching the beauty bits on QVC - the demonstrations are really helpful.

Everyone can wear red lipstick though surely? It just depends on what shade/tone it is? What season are you?

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2014 19:24

QVC is brilliant - the amount of stuff I've tried (properly, as you get 30 days) and sent back hasn't been that much but the security of knowing it's there is fab.

I bought a Perricone product for £75 and sent it back as it didn't suit me but I used it for a good couple of weeks before I developed sensitivity to it.

And you can't beat the Elemis prices - the today's special values of them mean you get about 4 full size products for 40 quid.

The reviews of the Joan Collins make up on QVC is pretty good.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/06/2014 20:01

But you can take stuff back to shops, people just don't do it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/06/2014 20:03

I can't wear red lip stick either, looks dreadfulGrin

MyrtleDove · 05/06/2014 22:38

Lots of shops won't do refunds on opened cosmetics. QVC is still excellent for beauty regardless of the returns policy though, and has good brands and some fantastic deals, especially the super-size products.

Also everyone can wear some shade of red - maybe not 'classic' London bus red, but it's just about getting the right one for your skin tone. Lots of people who struggle with classic, cool reds a la Ruby Woo look great in something like MAC Ladybug or Chilli. Best friend is a blue-eyed redhead and a Spring, so a person many people would say couldn't wear red lipstick - but she looks great in a warm red.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/06/2014 22:52

No, anything other than nude lipstick looks dreadful and 'hard' whatever the shade unfortunately.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/06/2014 23:25

No idea what season I am (never had colours done or anything) but I have a really small , thin mouth and red just emphasises (sp) this fact .

I've tried all sorts of red, bought a pallette to try different shades, blending colours.
The only one that I was vaguely happy with was an M&S 'Mulberry' (matte) which I can apply a small amount of gloss to.

DS reckons I look like a drag queen in red lippie, but they have very full, generous red lips Envy
I look more like Herman Munster lips in mine Hmm
