Cool young stylish plus size shops??

BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 09:22

Anyone know where I can get some nice stylish clothes?? Other than Evans? I'm 24 so don't want old lady plus size :-/

Also has anyone ever bought anything from everything5pounds.com? I just found it and there are no reviews or anything...

Im the same age. I get my clothes from asda, new look, asos curve, yours, simply be and www.crazyclearance.co.uk

Never tried everything5pounds but apparently it can be hit or miss. All the plus size clothes just look like sacks to me tbh. All big floaty tops.

BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 09:56

Oh cool I have never heard of crazyclearance, thanks! Looking on SimplyBe now. Also been looking at Forever 21, I didn't realise they did plus size!! They have lots of nice stuff.

Found torrid.com, which looks great but only in America :(

i was going to say forever 21, also asos have a curve section it starts at an 18. I used to use asos curve a lot, but have lost weight.

my sister is a size 24/26 I think and she uses pink clove and boohoo.com who have launched a plus size section up to a 24. You can sometimes get some nice stuff on yoursclothing, but often the materials leave a lot to be desired and a lot of the stuff looks like stuff you would find in the market, but some gems to be had.

I always found simplybe expensive and not always what they seemed online.

Jumblebee · 03/06/2014 10:41

New Look have some nice things (but still think that if you're plus size the only type of top you could possibly want is a floaty one that's elasticated at the bottom-just no!)

Forever 21 has some great plus size stuff. When I was in America I thought I'd hit the jackpot!

Asda, Simply Be, can't think of many more because I'm too skint for clothes shopping at the moment Confused

Just avoid H&M like the plague!

BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 10:47

Yes H&M is v depressing. Their sizes are so small! I've always been a 14 - 16, even when I was first getting into clothes/caring what size I was in my teens, I've always been a 16 and a 14 for my wedding. H&M 14 has never fit me!! Good job I don't like many of the clothes in there Wink

Will have a look in New Look today too, and have a look on Pink Clove! Never heard of that one.

Thanks a lot, keep them coming! Determined to get away from fucking leggings. I've put on weight recently from wearing legging/jegging/pajamas since becoming self employed at home!!!

BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 10:51

Help I love a lot of Asos Curve but an 18 will probably be too big. What about size 16s!!! No one cares about 16s haha!! Shops seem to cater for up to size 14 or from size 18. Except New Look :)

Gillybobs · 03/06/2014 11:00

Mango have launched a range, called violeta I think. Some nice things. Don't be put off by the rubbish styling online

RiojaHaze · 03/06/2014 11:06

Have you tried on here?

www.gemmacollinsofficial.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=90

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 03/06/2014 13:03

asos normal ranges have a lot of size 16's, I wasn't sure what size you wanted and tbh, I don't think of a 16 as needing plus size ranges.

Dorothy Perkins, river island, new looks main range, even top shop all carry a size 16. Even the supermarkets have some nice younger stuff in, asda in particular. Tesco does too, but sainsburys probably a bit too old for you but basics like plain tops and vests are good quality and cheap.

Once I got below a 20 there was no way I was shopping in evans, shapeless tunics and dresses and tops with no sleeves, manmade fabrics galore for huge prices. same with simply be. at a size 16 you have lots of options open to you.

goodasitgets · 03/06/2014 14:39

I'm a 16 and shop at
Pink clove, excite clothing, dorothy perkins, asda, Tesco, TK Maxx, biubiu (polish company for boobs!), matalan, yours clothing

BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:00

Thanks Help that's good to know. Owh why can I never find anything then? I hate shopping.

I am on my way home from shopping and have vowed never to go again and shop only online from now on. It's tooooo depressing!!!

OP posts:
BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:01

(By that I mean I usually feel fine and confident at home, but shop mirrors, hot shops, changing rooms etc have a way of making me feel like shit!)

goodasitgets · 03/06/2014 15:01

What are you looking for? Maybe we can help Smile

ecuse · 03/06/2014 15:03

Cos go up to a 44 (16)...

Otherwise I go for F21+, ASOS curve, Next, M&S mostly (size 18-20)

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 03/06/2014 15:05

Online shopping much easier. A lot more choice. H&m for example have tonnes of stuff online but the shops filled with rubbish. Even places like top shop river island all much better online.

I traipsed around the shops searching for myself and my 8yr old dd for summer holiday clothes we came home with a few bits but nothing much and noway near what we needed. Am hour online shopping and we have too much now. Lots ordered thinking we'd send at least half back, but the Boden, Zara, h&m, lands end orders are all being kept. Some from matalan being returned and some from next.

There you go 2 more stores I forgot about. Next and matalan. Next come up big and they always have 16's in store. Lots of nice stuff in amongst the older polyester work wear!! Matalan have some fab dresses and skirts and cheap sandals etc.

pleaseaffixstamps · 03/06/2014 15:09

...I came on here to both get and give recommendations, but the first thing I saw was your "Evans" and "old lady" comment, and now I feel like shit.

Thanks, fellow plus-size person.

BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:15

Oh no, sorry please!! I don't think "Evans" is a bad thing to say but "old lady" was thoughtless!

OP posts:
BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:16

If if makes you feel any better I feel shit too.

OP posts:
BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:17

Thanks again help more for the list!

OP posts:
pleaseaffixstamps · 03/06/2014 15:18

I don't want you to feel shit either!

I think I'll skip off from here, but there have been some great recommendations.

BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:35

Ok! But I've never even been in an Evans to know if it's old ladyish or not. So that's really not what I meant! They were two separate thoughts, one about one shop I already know I feel so bad :(

OP posts:
BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:35

Oops *one thought about the one shop I already know of, an some about the demographic I am in!

OP posts:
BreeVDKamp · 03/06/2014 15:36

*and one

Bloody hell I am giving up now ha!

Thanks for your help everyone!

OP posts:
pleaseaffixstamps · 03/06/2014 15:38

Fair enough, Bree!

(I like my evans tops, dammit!)

pleaseaffixstamps · 03/06/2014 15:40

Oh, and Jumblebee - the elasticated at the bottom thing (why do they do that? I don't want to look any more like a sack of potatos than I already do!) can be solved with a snip of the nail-scissors. I've rescued a couple of promising tops (nice fabric, nice pattern, horrible potato-sack elasticated bottom) like that.
