Help looking for shoes with removable insoles

Hi all

Could really do with some help if possible. I have just been told I need to wear orthotics in my shoes but I don't have any suitable shoes!!

They need to be under 2" heel height with a removable insole (so that I can replace it with the orthotic) but so far everything I've seen has looked so... old! I'm 30, love heels and pretty shoes - I don't want to wear old looking shoes Sad

Clarkes unstructured have been recommended as well as Aravon and Softwares but they're rather pricey for a show I don't love whilst money isn't exactly limited I'd like something sensible.

Does anyone have any suggestions

TIA!!

I asked a similar question a while ago here:

They are a big old lady, but I find hotters great for my orthotics. And a lot of shoes you can rip the insoles out, or just put yours on top, just depends how deep they are.

Ohh thanks Jenni I'll take a look at your thread Smile

I've got very uncool tailor-made built-up orthotics, but they fit inside most shoes (even heels) without a need to take out the insole. Orthotics fit in brogues and shoe-boots just fine. They also fit inside very high platform Mary Janes, not that I'm advocating you go against your doctor's advice...

MooMaid · 02/06/2014 21:33

I'm waiting for my custom made orthotics to be made but in the meantime hoping I can find some shoes to put them in - a fresh start so to speak!

Just concerned about the back not being high enough.....

You do need shoes with backs for orthotics, unfortunately. I'm okay as long as the back of the shoe is in line with the ankle. You won't be able to wear shoes with low sides or slingbacks, and you'll probably have some potential issues with T-bars and straps as the insoles raise your foot a bit.
Your shoes with higher backs and better ankle support should be fine though - all is not lost!

MooMaid · 02/06/2014 21:49

Thanks - that gives me some ideas which also unfortunately rules out most of my existing shoes!!

I know it'll more than likely help me with my walking which'll be great but just feeling bit sad at the compromise along with all the others I've had to make

But appreciate your input as I hadn't thought about straps/t-bars etc

Clarks unstructured are so good I don't need to wear my in soles as they are so supportive.

TheFillyjonk · 02/06/2014 22:02

I know, MooMaid, it's not fun to find all your favourite shoes are unavailable to you. I had to compromise with my custom insoles too, but to be honest I have sometimes just worn the pretty shoes sans insole if I am desperate. That's NOT good advice but it seemed okay for once in a while if I wasn't doing any walking.

Hush Puppies shoes usually have a removable sole (you can get wider and narrower fittings there). Maybe worth a visit to ask?

helzapoppin2 · 03/06/2014 00:14

Ecco have them in some of their shoes.

YouLoveItDoreen · 03/06/2014 00:44

How thin are your insoles? I have several sets now, but my most recent ones are fantastic, I have flat feet and a leg length difference, my new set fit nicely in boots, brogues, converse and high top trainers.
If yours are relatively slim then you might have an easier time finding footwear. My first set restricted me so much that I could only wear UGG boots, which were completely unsupportive. I was told it is best to wear lace up shoes especially with insoles.

JenniMoo · 03/06/2014 16:38

It sounds like you don't have your insoles yet in which case don't buy any shoes, you'll want to try them in them in the shop first. Do you have anything lace up like trainers you could wear them in? Usually you build up to wearing them full time, I think, but might depend on your reasons for needing them, so perhaps you'll be ok to wear your old shoes while shopping for new orthotic friendly ones.

chocaholic73 · 04/06/2014 17:17

You will need to make sure shoes are deep enough for your insoles but sometimes it is enough to go up a shoe size. You will just have to experiment unfortunately.

What about Rieker?

Artistic · 04/06/2014 18:59

I use custom as well as ready made orthotics. Need to as I have severe flat feet. The best brands I found are Asics (for gym), hotter for casual wear & Wolky for shock-absorbency if you need it. I never buy any shrouds without trying them on with the bulkier set of orthotics. Also I tried buying hotter online & had to exchange before I found the right size & width to fit my orthotics. Am sure the hotter stores wouldn't have had so many choices for me to try so it was probably worth the hassle. Very comfy.

If you want to wear heels then Clarks will take ready (slim) orthotics. But it's not as comfy/effective as custom orthotics.

Artistic · 04/06/2014 19:00

*Shrouds??!! ..nope.

Shoes.

Theoldhag · 04/06/2014 22:41

I don't know if these would be any good? I absolutely love mine, very comfy and didn't need to 'break them in' at all. The insole is leather and is removable, the heal is a comfortable yet elegant height. I can't rate these high enough!

Doc martens I love! The best! Ugg boots are great with removable insoles you may have to go up a size with uggs though. Most good quality casual everyday trainers are good too I wear Nike vintage style as not so clumpy. Yes I agree trying them on in shop is a good idea.
Clarks is good I got some great boots in there many times. Clark’s also do half sizes which may be handy if you need more room for insoles.
