moving on from highlights (or better highlights needed?) HELP ME NOT TO HAVE CRAP HAIR!

I have had highlights for years. Naturally I am very dark blonde, what you would prob describe as a bit 'mousey' although it is actually quite a nice colour tbh but I think I look better blonder.

Anyway over the years I have had bleach (not that often), high lift tint, and also a mix of high lift tint, a mid blonde & darker blonde (this is what I currently have).

Problem is that I always look rooty around my hairline/temples, ALWAYS! The blonder I go the worse this looks. Dark roots elsewhere (parting etc) I can handle, but the hairline at the sides/temples just looks bloody awful.

Where am I going wrong? I am considering a full head permanent blonde colour, would this be a disaster?

I have foils, its as if the hairdresser doesn't get close enough to the roots at the temples, only once in the past few years have I been to a hairdresser who did go closer at the temples, re-growth was awful but at least it did look good for a short while.

I spend £80+ on full head highlights & a cut and blow, have been going to current hairdressers for about a year but losing faith in him.

What can I do/try?

I am 35, hair is long, live near Nottingham/Derby.

HELP!!!

Try a different hairdresser. Ask them to put the highlights in but not through the very top fine layer all over, so they will peek through your natural colour as it moves and blend, but you won't get a visible line at the parting and temple as the hair grows. Don't go solid lighter all over - roots nightmare!

My hair is a lot shorter but a similar colour. I was having this issue with highlights as I am very grey at the front and the temples. The grey seemed to come through so quick.

I have had a full head of high lift tint (rather than bleach) and it is very light ash blonde. It is so much better than highlights, I do obviously get roots but they look dark rather than grey. It is a lot cheaper getting the roots done and I still go for about 6 weekly.

I have got the odd grey hair but not to the point that its an issue at the moment so don't have that to contend with, I just cant understand the temple thing it looks terrible especially in photos like I have very blonde hair but a border of dark all around my hairline. The top front isn't too bad, its the sides. If I go darker (as in darker highlight colours) then the prob isn't as noticeable but I look a bit more shit as I do think I suit blonde better. Hate changing hairdressers but maybe its time to find a new one again.......

I have exactly this problem too. My hairdresser calls the dark roots a 'halo'. She seems to suggest the solution is more frequent highlights but I go about every 7 weeks at present which seems plenty often enough, you?

I once had a hairdresser put really fine ones at the side which worked a bit better, I will ask for this next time actually.

I get greasy roots too which makes them look even darker.

When I had highlights (on mousy) hair, I had a mixture of colours put in, one of which was an auburn very slightly darker than my natural hair color. The overall effect was a mid blonde but I could go for months without colouring.

I think you need a better hairdresser if they can't do the little baby hairs around your temples properly. My old hairdresser was like this - I now go to Toni and Guy and my hairdresser spends time getting every strand. Plus just get a t-section done but go more often. Get a half head every 3rd visit. I have similar hair to you and have a mix of light blonde colours put in then an ashy toner for a light ash blonde effect. My local T and G really know their stuff and advised this. A bit ££ but you wear your hair every day so it's worth spending on IMO. Please don't use a box dye at home - I ruined my hair doing that.
