Birkenstocks (again)

I tried them on in the shop and they felt okay. I have walked around in them for 24 hours (well I didn't sleep in them), and my feet feel bruised and calloused. My legs ache. Please tell me it will get better soon. I bought them to walk around centre parcs for the next week!

I always wear flat shoes, it is the foot moulding that is rubbing my foot.

Thanks Confused

I always rub new ones with vaseline to break them in.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/06/2014 19:41

Yes they will get better. I've always need to break a new pair in, but once they're broken in I can wear them all day.

thatwhichwecallarose · 01/06/2014 19:49

Oh yes - I remember the pain of the £40 pair of shoes I'd just bought! But after a few days they are now my go to pair of shoes (especially if I'm doing a lot of walking).

I have always had to wear them round the house as slippers for a few days, then a few more days of not wearing them for too long, then they are super comfortable.

Fairylea · 01/06/2014 19:58

Can you wear them with socks for a few days round the house? Despite the hideousness of socks and sandals it really does help to wear them in.

Lagoonablue · 01/06/2014 19:59

God I could never wear. Birkies go walk a distance. Trainers all the way for me. They are just never that comfy but may be is just me.

Best sandals ever for me were Clarks Birkenstock lookalikes, with a back strap. So comfortable, leather sole rather than cork. No blisters or callouses. Not sure they make them now.

Lagoonablue · 01/06/2014 19:59

Birkies to walk a distance. That what it is meant to say.

wonderpants · 01/06/2014 20:02

Thank you, that feels hopeful it will get better! Socks and birkies... Ha ha ha... Just not in public though!

I have to break my feet in every year with my birkies. Takes about a week for the muscles in the soles of my feet to get accustomed to the cork bed moulding.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 01/06/2014 20:07

They will get better. I'm avoiding this years new ones as I know they will rub at first. I returned the 'trendy' Arizonas as they rubbed too much and got my usual Madrid in navy.

grumblepuss · 01/06/2014 21:22

Have you got the straps done up tight enough?
My feet don't move in mine, the straps are done up much tighter than your average flip flop. So the whole footbed is picked up when I step... Does that make sense?

wonderpants · 01/06/2014 21:28

Yes I think so! They are the double strapped ones and are as tight as they can be!

I wouldn't wear new sandals for any length of time unless I had comfy ones with me. Envy you going to Centre Parcs, Take some plasters with you, Hope you don't get a bruised bum on yer bike.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/06/2014 21:59

I can't wear them for anything more than pottering around in.

wonderpants · 02/06/2014 15:31

I have loosened the strap across my toes and that has helped a bit! No pain no gain!!

I have just bought 2 pairs of the Clarks version of Birkies as they are far more comfortable, I'll put the second pair away for next year when everyone will be wearing heels no doubt!

frazzeled · 02/06/2014 19:38

I normally get a new pair every other year - and the style this year is a bit different. Def took longer to break in - but are now making my feet very happy! They give a bit - then you may need to tighten up one notch. Good luck!

MooMaid · 02/06/2014 20:22

Yep, took me a couple of wears to start breaking them in but now I can wear them for ages! They'll get better!
