Because I'm gross

after a hideous few months financially, everything has suffered....my hair (thick v curly) was washed in economy shampoo or washing up liquid, teeth brushed with basics toothpaste, no moisturiser or handcream.

I've been given a £10 superdrug voucher so I need to try and restore some normality to my body!!

What is besy to buy for £10?!?

I would prioritise moisturiser and conditioner - cheap face wash and shampoo can be offset by using half decent conditioner and moisturiser.

lifehasafunnywayofhelpinguout · 01/06/2014 18:16

Congratulations. I love superdrug.
Alberto balsom shampoo and conditioner £1 each and they come in various fragrances coconut, apple, green tea and others but i can't think of them at the moment.
I swear by astral moisturiser £1
you can get toothpaste there for a £1 which is quite reasonable.
and they also have hand cream for a £1. I'm using one from wilkinsons it only cost 50p.

Don't know if your in2 painting your nails and wearing makeup but they have the MUA range where you can buy nail polish lipstick for a pound and mascara for £2 and emery boards for a £1. xxx

I use Alberto balsam, I love it! My hairdresser actually asked what I was using when I started with it as my hair looked so good. Often on offer for £1 in Sainsburys if you spend your voucher on something else.

Get the coconut oil, you can use it on hair or skin

www.superdrug.com/superdrug/superdrug-coconut-oil-125ml/invt/203003&bklist=

It's with the hair stuff

Pollywallywinkles · 01/06/2014 18:59

Have you looked at their own brand products? There are some offers on at the moment on line - not sure if you can get the offers in store.

Work out what products you need and then see how cheaply you can do it.

capsium · 01/06/2014 19:02

Have you got a pound shop where you live? Our's sells main brands of shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste. Also sells battery electric toothbrushes, all manner of toothpicks and flossers, dental instrument kits.

^oh sorry missed the bit about Superdrug voucher. I would recommend Arm & Hammer toothpastes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/06/2014 19:17

And get a points card - they really add up Grin

I'd recommend the Radience or Vit E cleanser (with the muslin cloth) then your skin is exfoliated as you cleanse.
I bought the serum (when they were on half price) it's good too.

(Actually, blinking typical, it's not on Special Offer on their website,, but they do have "B Clean" though I haven't tried that.

Bicarbonate of Soda is good for stain removal on teeth (It's in alot of toothpastes) though it tastes vile , it's very effective and gentle

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 01/06/2014 20:13

Thank you!

I LOVE exfoliation...i. Haven't been able to use it in so long due to £££ and I feel icky without it! I. Loved st Ives blemish free one. Because it was so coarse but it's to much of the budget to get! Is there another one that's any good?

Alberto balsm unfortunately is awful on my hair but I know superdrug is pretty good for having shampoo on offer so will get a halfway decent conditioner and maybe their own shampoo

What moisturiser do people recommend? And face wash

I don't wear make up...and have gone off painting my ails!

Things are not much better so may well have to go back to economy shampoo etc but I just want some bits to make myself feel nice right now iygwim

Thank you all :)

Yes to Arm and Hammer - I love the taste of it.

The Vitamin E oil/face wash are often on offer and are really decent for the price.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 01/06/2014 22:15

Thank you!

As long as your toothpaste has fluoride in it, the price doesn't really matter. It's not worth splurging on - save that for something nice for your hair or skin.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 01/06/2014 23:42

Thanks kundry :)

I got some whitening Arm & Hammer from the 99p shop. It has done a better job than the £7 odd Blanx I got from Boots.

I dont buy a proper exfoliator anymore, I could no longer justify Philosophys Micro Exfoliating wash so now im using Astral as a cold cream cleanser with a flannel. To be honest the flannel gives a good slough of the face!

As for shampoo and conditioner its trial and error. I love Aussie but I begrudge paying those prices. I was most excited to find Flex in my local £shop so have been loving that and smothering my hair in jasmine oil once a week. Seems to be doing the job.

AwkwardSquad · 02/06/2014 07:53

You can make your own exfoliator and face masks from kitchen ingredients.

Exfoliator. Use some gentle foaming face wash and work some sugar (pref caster sugar as it's finer) into it to make a paste, then gently massage onto a wet face, rinse off.

Face masks - yoghurt and oatmeal = nourishing; egg white = tightening; oatmeal and yoghurt with a little lemon juice and some fresh garlic = anti blemish.

Coconut oil = moisturiser for face and body (but careful on yr face if you are prone to blackheads). Also can be used as a hair treatment, massaged into dry hair then wrap in a hot towel. Not tried it myself. Remember to add shampoo to hair and massage in BEFORE you wet your hair, if you try this, or you'll never get it off.
