Organic skin care etc

I am trying to reduce the amount of parabens/SLS/silicone in my beauty products.
I have sorted out my shampoo and conditioner. I am very happy with Faith in Nature.
I'm now looking at skin care/body care and make up.
I wondered if anyone had any experience in this area or any recommendations of products and sites.
I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible as in my experience so far organic products can be quite pricey.
Any recommendations, reviews, would be helpful.
Thanks.

In terms of skincare, you can't get much cleaner and cheaper than sweet almond oil and coconut oil. These 2 cover 90% of what I need - cleanser, moisturiser for face and body, mixed with sugar as a scrub, hair treatment etc.

I use Korres shower gel (expensive but it lasts forever and is often on offer in waitrose, currently 2 for £8) and/or make my own using castile soap, almond and vitamin e oil, honey and essential oils. It's very quick and easy to do.

My skin and hair are both in great condition. Smile

Make-up wise I can't help as I've not gone down that route just yet, so if be interested in any recommendations too.

I have a big tub of coconut oil that I use on my hair and body.
I use it to take my make up off, but if I don't follow up with a wash off cleanser my skin gets spotty and dull. Does anyone have any organic wash off cleanser recommendations?
I have never ventured into the world of organic make up. I've done a bit of googling and the only one I have heard of before is Lily Li Lo. Has anyone used that?

Lovelula is my go to online shop for organic skincare.

Weleda products seem quite reasonable. I use their baby lotion as body moisturiser.

I also like Neal's yard (rose beauty balm as cleanser) dr Hauschka (toner) Caudalie ( moisturising serum) and Ren (mask) but these are quite expensive. But I use very few products as I'm trying to simplify my routine to a minimum, so I stick with the few products I know and love. I haven't settled on a day moisturiser yet, I still haven't found one I like with SPF.

I didn't get on with coconut oil, in fact it was a disaster and I broke out badly with blotchiness and black heads which took a long time fir me to get over.

I also use the Aveda tourmaline charged wash off (exfoliating) cleanser , not sure if Aveda is "organic" enough for you though Los.

Go to local fairs and fetes of the 'right sort' and hopefully you'll find a good small scale local supplier who is also cruelty free and their products haven't travelled a thousand miles.

But, I have to say that I haven't yet found a suitable replacement for my Nivea soft so I'm working on it.
Hair, body lotions, lips and bath stuff/soaps are sorted.

CluelessCrapParent · 01/06/2014 16:53

Or you could make your own...Neal's yard do books on the how to or have a look in amazon.

LosBreakingBad · 01/06/2014 16:55

Clueless that's more or less what happened to me when I used it as a sole face cleanser.
I like coconut oil for my hair but I find it a bit boring as a body moisturiser. I like using scented creamy lotions and potions.
I love Faith in Nature shampoo and conditioner. I use the pomegranate and rooibos. They smell wonderful. I used to use Dr Organic argan oil shampoo/conditioner from Holland and Barrett. They were good but I didn't buy them again as I just couldn't stand the smell.
I like Dr Bronner's soap for in the shower.
I use Jason sunscreens. I have an allergy to sunscreens and this is the only mineral one that I have found that isn't greasy and can be worn daily under make up.

Apparently Jasons have been criticised for not having enough organic content -I'd heard they are good though although I've not tried them.
I like Dr Organics hair stuff.
The Faith in Nature jojoba conditioner is lovely and I love the smell of the Lavender and Geranium shampoo and the aloe vera and ylang ylang shower gel.

I like Dr Organic skin are, available from Holland and Barrett. Their Skin Whitening Cream gets rid of the hyper pigmentation marks I have on my face. Their handcream, body lotion and deodorant is good too.

Make up wise I buy Lavera, Dr Hauschka and Bare Faced Beauty.

Another vote for Weleda, I use their lovely almond skin care range and it's great. No ideas on make up though!
