Help my skin please

Ugh - just looked in the mirror in full sunlight, and it was Not Pretty.

I have -

  1. a big, red nose
  2. tiny red veins around my nose
  3. 2 big hormonal spots (I hardly ever get spots but these two are monstrous)
  4. tiny lumpy bits under my eyes
  5. dark shadows under my eyes

My skin is usually pretty decent, so this has come as a horrible shock. Age appears to have caught up with me!

I've been using the Superdrug Radiance green wash off cleanser, which I quite like. If my skin feels a bit drier, I use a Clarins one. Have the Radiance serum which I did like, but now feels very stingy when I put it on. Vitamin E oil overnight (I still quite like this).

I need to update/upgrade my skincare routine, without spending lots of money. I'd like -

  • a wash off cleanser
  • a moisturiser - light and possibly with SPF
  • an oil forovernight

Please help! :)

My skin has improved dramatically since ditching hot cloth cleansing every day, I only do it once a week now and use Micellar water to remove make up in the week.

I also use Eucerin moisturiser - the anti redness night cream.

I have just discovered using Green tea as a toner, your skin feels lovely if you swoosh a teabag over your skin and really calms it down.

I really can't use Clarins even the sensitive range, I find it too harsh and it gives me spots and I never get spots normally!

The aloe range from The Body Shop is really gentle too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 16:50

Thank you. Eucerin is for dry skin, yep? I'd say my skin is mostly combination, but occasionally gets a bit tight. Micellar water is okay for taking eye make up off, but I don't feel clean enough if only using that.

I like the green tea suggestion!

I'm sure there is a eucerin range for combination/oily skin.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 17:52

Cheers! Will have a look. Have also been looking at Avene - has anybody used?

I have, it was too harsh for my sensitive skin but others on here swear by it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/06/2014 18:05

Thanks again, Dame.

Oh I wondered about the, 'Yes To' range too.

I don't rate the yes to range much bet admittedly only used a shower gel and some face wipes someone left by mum's bed in hospital.

I like Avene and of course La roche Posay (and VIchy - an old favourite). At the moment I am concentrating on the dry skin of my cheeks and neck with..coconut oil. Lovely stuff. Woke up to a lovely smooth skin.

Soe people swear by Subomed (I think that is the name - keep getting it wrong!) for spots. Either smear on whole face or just dab on the spots themselves. I always used TCP for spots! Witch hazel during the day

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2014 18:24

Thank you, Deathray.

I'm going to investigate those brands in Boots at the weekend.

Escentual has a third off French pharmacy ranges this month. I've stocked up on LRP and threw a couple of treats in too - Nuxe lip balm and a Caudalie eau fraiche.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2014 19:12

Is that a website?

Also not a fan of the Yes To range.

It sounds like you have proper combination skin possibly with rosacea. Lumpy bits under eyes could be milia if they are white and hard. Some beauticians will remove them.

I'd go for a gentle cleanser - I love Cetaphil, there's a reason dermatologists recommend it. Not tried Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser but it gets a lot of recommendations so I'd go for their Anti-redness moisturiser as well.

Dark circles I think one is stuck with I certainly am

AwkwardSquad · 02/06/2014 19:48

Yes, here it is Escentual

This is my first order so I can come back and tell you if it goes smoothly!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/06/2014 20:36

Thanks, both. Deffo not rosacea and not really red as such generally. I suspect that yesterday's nose may have been sun related! The tiny red veins are a new thing though. I'll poke around with the Avene stuff at the weekend and try to read some reviews too. Thanks

Reporting back - the order from Escentual arrived when they said it would, by Royal Mail signed-for. Well packaged, all items present and correct. Can recommend, on experience so far!
