My daughter has just graduated (yipee!)

DP has his own style......think ageing hippy, bohemian wreck etc.

He wants to do the right thing by my daughter and make an effort to be smart. Has anyone been to a graduation recently? Did all the men wear suits and ties?

My DH wore a suit and open shirt, no tie to mine last autumn. There were men in suits and men in jeans and shirts.

Sorry posted too soon :) as Gypsy Floss says there are all types of style at graduation from formal suit and tie types to casual types. As long asDP is happy and comfortable in what he wears you will be fine. Relax, enjoy your day, and rejoice in your DD success. A note of caution though - graduation photos are for life! ;) :) good luck!

Comment about photos is spot on. DS2 has to wear suit, shirt and tie for his graduation so DH will probably also wear a suit and I will go for dress and jacket. At DS1's graduation one of the senior academic staff was in full ageing hippy mode topped off by an elaborate gown and cap - looked bizarre!

it's nice to dress up a bit as they take family photos (if you want)

Sleepyhoglet · 01/06/2014 20:56

Depends which university. My Cambridge ceremony was very smart so if Oxbridge then I would recommend a suit and tie

madasa · 01/06/2014 21:39

Not Oxbridge....Bath university, ceremony at Bath Abbey
