Night on the town outfit help needed!

sammyjayne · 01/06/2014 08:59

I am a very infrequent poster but hoping someone here will be ale to help! I have to go on a night out on the town next week which will involve bars, Saturday night frivolity and maybe a club! This is way out of my comfort zone and I don't know at all what people wear to these events!

I am a late thirties mum whose social life usually revolves around children!

I feel a bit fat and frumpy! But I do not want to lo like a mutton dressed as lamb aging clubber!

I am a size 16 with a mum tum. I am 5'7 so reasonably tall. I have really wide feet so struggle with heels/ posh shoes!

I am also on a budget so don't want to spend loads!

Help what can I wear that I won't show myself up in!

What about a pair of these loose fitting printed trousers everyone is wearing primark have several cheap varieties, worn with a toning plain colour top and nice sandals? I will see if. I can find some and do a link

I have quickly found these, they say jiggers, and aren't in a pattern I had in mind, but don't have time to look further, they're the kind of thing tho, these, with a navy top and sandals?

This is more what I had in mind, I would wear these with a black strapless top from next as that's what I already have in the wardrobe.

MissOtisRegretsMadam · 01/06/2014 09:38

I wear those style trousers with a cami black best and a nude blazer and flat open toe ballet type pumps or wedges for evening.

Or what about some black skinnies/jeggings a black vest and a kimono?

Stuff you would wear again and could dress up or down if you are on a budget.

Primark do wide fit shoes too I think.

sammyjayne · 01/06/2014 09:51

I tried on a pair of the loose patterned trousers and felt a bit like Bella Enburg wearing pyjamas! The black trousers/top kimono might be a goer!

Can anybody link to some nice kimono style jackets? Thanks for your help so far.

New Look have lots of nice Kimonos at the minute, and Matalan do great jeggings in dark blue and black (i always find jeggings sit better on my tummy than proper jeans as they dont dig in and make my fat bulge over).

silvery coloured ballet pumps go with most things and can be dressed up or down, again new look have an amazing collection of shoes and do a wide foot range as well

littlegreengloworm · 01/06/2014 11:42

This is what I would wear on a budget

direct.asda.com/george/womens/skirts/midi-jegging-skirt/G004570802,default,pd.html

With a black top and smart blazer or cover up, really gorgeous sandals, curly blow dry :)

sammyjayne · 04/06/2014 13:32

Help help again pleease ladies? I have tried the jeggings, kimono look and I feel as though I look like my grandma. I feel really frumpy in them! The jeggings tend to wrinkle around my knees and bum and the kimono top I got just sort of hung there! I really don't want to be the frumpy friend on the end! What can I do??? The bit I need to disguise most is my tummy!

I have some heeled patent shoes that tie with a ribbon that I thought I could wear with the jeggings etc but I'm just not sure????

If you don't feel good in them don't wear them, you will be self concious all night and won't enjoy yourself.

What about a body con dress? Don't discount them, they're really good at holding you in. I am the same dress size as you, and slightly shorter, but I have worm them and feel really good and secure in them, t k maxx usually have a good selection for around £30, would go with your shoes aswell if the colours go.

Did you try on different makes of jeggings, or just one? Different types might wear differently.

I do know what you mean about the kimono feeling frumpy. I really like them, tesco have some really good styles, you just have to wear them right I think.

That's a point, have a look at tesco clothes. They have some brightly coloured tapered trousers, cornflower blue and hot pink If I remember right, on the same rack as the kimonos and contrasting tops.

I love a wrap dress. I think they're super flattering, arms are covered which is a bonus for me. I got this recently but they only have a few sizes left in the black www.next.co.uk/g8044s1

MissOtisRegretsMadam · 04/06/2014 20:34

What about a dress that flares out from under the bust don't know if they have a name!

Iv also been looking at dresses on eBay that are like blouses on top but a body con skirt at the bottom... They sound disgusting but actually are flattering!

scratchandsniff · 04/06/2014 20:42

Dorothy Perkins Eden jeggings are flattering and comfy. I'd probably opt for those in black with heels or some metallic strappy flat sandals. Then a vest/camisole under a blazer with a statement necklace.

I know its probably more than you want to spend, but this sort of cut is good as it doesn't cling and hangs away from mum tum area.

These are more affordable. Look like they'd skim the tummy.

lizandlulu · 04/06/2014 21:48

I have the Eden jeggings. Mine don't stretch at the knee so far. No belt loops tho. Not that they need a belt, I just am so used to wearing one, I feel odd without

sammyjayne · 04/06/2014 22:29

Fab thanks ladies! I will toddle off to dotty P's on Friday for a look! That blazer looks nice Liz, did you say you are a 16? Is it flattering? I don't want to look boxy iykwim? Thereis a H of F in town so I could look in there.

I got Matalan Jeggings but I feel as though they are bunching round my knees and sliding down under my muffin top (attractive eh?)

I will try the DP jeggings. I have a beigey colour suede jacket that I could wear over the top of a cami and jeggings and my patent heels and then maybe jewellery is the way to go! Get a necklace so big no one notices the rest of me! I love the idea of this look but fear when I get it on I'll look as wide as a bus!

I felt really frumpy in the kimono I think it was a combination of my shape and lack of confidence in carrying it off.

I think a dress maybe too formal?

lizandlulu · 05/06/2014 13:02

Yes I'm a 16, the blazer is really really smart. I'm broad shouldered and it doesn't meet at the middle, but just feels to good on that I wear it. It's quite thin material and not boxy at all.

And it's too short notice now, but eBay have got some amazing statement jewelly, I've just bought some but not expecting delivery for 2 weeks. Really cheap compared to in the shops although I don't know what quality will be like. They were les than £4 each tho so I'm not too worried

scratchandsniff · 05/06/2014 20:07

New look have got some longer length blazers. I know what you mean about looking boxy. A necklace would help detract away from tummy area.
