Can you tell me about mineral foundation

Agrestic · 01/06/2014 04:35

Does it work as well as they say?

I have pale ivory rose skin which is fairly blotchy. I have small red veins and awful dark bags under my eyes which never ever go away...

Will a mineral makeup cover all my sins? If not, what will?

No. I think mineral make up only really works on blemish free young skin. On most of us it looks cakey, orange and awful- or maybe that's just meGrin it has a lot of mn fans though so am sure your other replies will be more positive than mine!

I bought the Bare Minerals foundation and it looked awful on me. In an effort to make it work I threw yet more money at the official kabuki brush and primer and still it looked dreadful. Then I added the Mineral Veil powder over the top and it got worse. I looked waxy, shiny and cakey all at the same time Shock

Then I discovered the matte version. Ahhhh Bliss! Not waxy, not cakey, not shiny. Just me only better - and I'm neither young nor unblemished :)

For capillaries and the like I would use a flat concealer brush to lay the foundation on after buffing the first layer on.

After trying every liquid foundation out there I was intrigued by bare minerals. I have patchy redness and broken veins and this stuff is amazingly good. Apply it properly by buffing and you will never look back.
Worth every penny and my skin condition has improved massively too.

It's TSV on QVC today. V tempted, just slightly unsure re shade.

Raskova · 01/06/2014 07:52

Sounds like you have the same skin as me. I've not used any mineral stuff but the mousse ones are good as long as you moisturise loads.

I use a liquid one. Maybelline something or rimmel better skin.

It is a gift from the heavens and I am anmything but young or blemish free.

I have pretty pale skin and I use the L'oreal stuff, shade is D1/W1. It has also improved my skin no end.

If anyone could give me a tip on how not to get it everywhere when applying that would be appreciated!

Lilly Lolo - cheaper than bare minerals & better I think. I have recommended to my friends & they love it. Great eye shadow too...you can get samples to get the shade right

Notrightnowww · 01/06/2014 10:20

Ooh, I like the look of the Lilly Lolo stuff to try out. No idea what shade (or starter kit) to go for. I usually use Chanel Vitaluminere in Beige - I think I read that equates to Light Medium in Bare Minerals, would that be the same for Lilly Lolo?

I do love the Chanel stuff and the shade is great for me, but wonder if I'm missing something by not trying mineral stuff.

FelixFelix · 01/06/2014 10:23

It's good if you don't have any dry skin at all. Otherwise it looks awful! I can only use my Bare Minerals stuff about once a month when I have a 'good' skin day Sad It looks great for that one day!

FerrisBueller1972 · 01/06/2014 10:26

By the description of your colouring you would be fair/light bare minerals. You can mix them to get the shade you need. The starter set that is 9 piece is a great buy that will cost upto£49.99 for all the elements including the brushes. eBay has some for cheaper.
I ummed and ahhed about it for ages and finally took the plunge. Never going back to liquid again as the coverage is fantastic and it doesn't slide offGrin

Much prefer Lily Lolo. It seems more natural looking and does cover quite well, but less less cakey/orange, plus they have some good pale shades. I ordered the trial sizes (about £1.50 each I think) to be sure I got a good match as I was sick of pale being too dark or yellow based. I ended up with Candy Cane, which isn't their palest colour, but has pink undertones. Really pleased with it, but I do use some cream concealer underneath it on bad skin day patches sometimes.

It was a disaster on my pores - highlighted the feckers unless I applied their primer beforehand and was really careful, didn't flatter the tiny dry patches either. I've given up on it. My skin looks better without it.

AngieM2 · 01/06/2014 14:32

I've used it for 3-4 years having previously been a ELDW user. I used the normal then Matt, the Matt started to look waxy and horrible on me and i was sampling some other stuff but i've just come accross Pur Minerals. Its the US leading brand and is sold in M&S. I love it. Its a 4in 1 compact. Its so much better than BM.

Maisie0 · 04/06/2014 07:51

I have a set as well, but really, the Bare Mineral kitset is just the individual component of what you can get in a single bottle of say a nice heavier creamy foundation, or these CC or BB creams that you can get off the shelf these days. If you are going to use a primer, then this is the liquid formula within a liquid foundation any way.

I would aim for a liquid formula that can cover pore. I have a set of the BM kit, and I can tell the lumps and bumps on my skin and it really doesn't cover the holes, even though the colour can be mixed and match to a larger degree. I find it too time consuming to be honest on a day to day usage. Maybe for special occasion, I will use it when I have the time.
