I've only just today realised what DKNY stands for. You've all known forever haven't you?

Had a real lightbulb moment, such that I stopped in my tracks and went 'oohhh, of course' :)

What does gap stand for?

Also I always thought Yves Saint Laurent was pronounced Eeves San Laron?

Allegedly gay and proud

squoosh · 31/05/2014 00:37

My boss was once sent a gift of an Hermès scarf. She pronounced it 'her-meez' and of course I couldn't correct her or she would have despised me for showing her up!

squoosh · 31/05/2014 00:38

Loewe is one I'm never too sure of. Is it low-vuh?

SqutterNutBaush · 31/05/2014 00:49

GAP stands for Genuine American Product.

We used to snigger at the "Gay and Proud" slogan in the playground, it was outed as a myth years ago :o

SqutterNutBaush · 31/05/2014 00:52

Oh and I did know about DKNY but only because my mum loves the perfume eangw haha

Deathraystare · 31/05/2014 07:45

Well I may snigger (knew about DKNY and Nylon) but did not know how to pronounce L'Occitane - was pronouncing it Lockytan until my friends corrected me!

Thumbwitch · 31/05/2014 07:50

Tesco was named after 2 people:
"The name comes from the initials of TE Stockwell, who was a partner in the firm of tea suppliers, and CO from Jack's surname."
Taken from Tesco's own website.

I knew about DKNY.

DIdn't know about either long form of GAP. Don't care either Grin

Shock My tutor when I studied fashion told us about the NY - London thing! I feel cheated.

StormyBrid · 31/05/2014 08:03

Thanks for posting and educating me - I'd always assumed Donkey Kong New York. I have no idea why!

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 31/05/2014 08:20
Grin Being really old (and a bit dyslexic) I can remember when FCUK shops used to be French Connection, and it took me ages to realise it was just a rebranding and not just some twattish gratuitous swearing.
HornyHandsofToil · 31/05/2014 08:23

God I feel old- I know what DKNY is because I remember Donna Karan launching it as her cheap line. I even remember when the Armani a/x opened a store couple years later and we giggled that we could finally afford an Armani (Tshirt, that is. And it cost more than a gap coat back then).

QuietNinjaTardis · 31/05/2014 08:26

How do you pronounce Hermès then?

sara11272 · 31/05/2014 08:30

QuietNinja air-mez, I think.

I remember a really trendy friend of mine years ago telling me and another friend that someone she knew had started working at air-mez. We thought she meant M&S

elQuintoConyo · 31/05/2014 14:30

No, it's more like her-mees to rhyme with herpes Grin
