Gymnastic-clothing

Hello,

I am fighting my body fat at the moment but am still 13st (I )am almost 5'6"). So quite overweight and around a size 18 on the bottom.

Now I am looking to up my exercise and have just signed up for an adult gymnastics class. I am not super flexible but always loved it as a kid so want to give this a go despite my extra weight Blush

However I am not sure what to wear. To be honest I don't have any sports clothing that fits me and it says online that you should wear tight clothing for safety reasons. The trousers also have to be quite flexible to do the stretching and movements I am assuming.

Does anyone know where I can order some good sports trousers? Would leggings looks ridiculous because of my size? I am worried about bits wobbling about and don't want to embarrass myself more than necessary! Maybe leggings with some extra support?

I don't want to spend too much right now as I am not sure how much I'll like it and finances are a bit tricky at the moment.

I hope someone has experience with larger sports clothing :)

Sports leggings tend to pull you in and give support. I'm a size 14 now, down from 16/18 and always wore them the the gym etc. I've always liked Nike Dri fit ones, although you can get cheaper pairs in primark, tesco etc that are almost as good. Sports direct is a good bet for branded stuff. I would definitely go with fitted things as they hold you in place better than looser gym clothes iyswim.

Definitely don't try and make do with baggy clothes - I've made that mistake with my (similar) sport and you just end up with unnecessary injuries!

I personally use the Nike capris, but there are lots of brands which make good, supportive bottoms. H&M is pretty good for bottoms. To be honest when you're doing tricks in gymnastics your peers will be rooting you on whatever you're wearing and whatever your size. :)

The Nike capris I have, have lasted me over 4 years already and get worn at least once a week, and also went through the carnage that was Tough Mudder and came up like new! No splits or tears, no saggyness, they haven't turned see-through, they don't smell, they pull me in and conceal my lumps and bumps pretty well (saddlebags!) but they're still skin tight enough to be suitable for the sport.

You might want to consider wearing a leotard or body with the leggings, maybe add a tshirt on top if it helps to stop feeling selfconscious. I have a huge bottom and wearing a body helps with stopping builder's bum and any burns from apparatus/mat work.

I am similar weight & height to you, also size 18 bum, I wear Tesco gym kit to exercise in. Their capri leggings are perfectly serviceable. For normal gym stuff I wear them with a bog-standard H&M black T-shirt, I used to wear baggy band-type T-shirts but they flap around, and never hide as much as you'd hope Hmm

You don't want to spend loads of course, cause you're going to be a smaller size soon Grin

You dont want a baggy top. It will fall over your face when you do a handstand. Loose capris and a long fitted vest should work.
It sounds like great fun. Enjoy :-)

Sorry for the rude interruption but would you mind saying how old you are and how you found the class? I've been taking DD to gymnastics for a little while and sometimes wish everyone would eff off so I can have a go! I'm nearly 40, so probably a little old to start Hmm
