Laser hair removal

I think I'm going to go for it. It does cost a fortune, but I am so fed up of shaving and never having smooth skin, with all the soreness and bumps I get!

There is a Sk:n clinic in the city where I live. Their price for full leg, Brazillian and armpits is around £2,100 for 8 treatments. Does this sound right? This is with the 25% discount in their website (!!!) - do they do bigger reductions? It is an eye-watering amount and very difficult to justify, but if the results are good and permanent, I will go for it.

Any feedback on the treatments or on Sk:n will be much appreciated.

I've started a course at SK:n, 8 sessions. Had one moustache and 2 brazillians with all the back bits. Cost me about £1200. Results amazing so far. Hair growth is minimal and that makes you gutted you booked an 8 week course but they do explain the growth cycle and why its important to keep going regularly. I would recommend.

Thank you, Angie! Would you always go for the 8 rather than 6 sessions option? How long does it take per session, by the way?

Just before you hand over your cash, it is not a permanent solution.
Most places have started calling it laser hair reduction .
You will need regular top ups too.

I went for 8 as it was a good price. I think they say every 4 weeks for face and 6 for bikini but as its a fair drive to the clinic I'm having both done at 5 weeks. Top lip takes abou 1-2 minutes, bikini probably about 10 to actually laser. You'll be in their half an hour with the prep time. I cant imagine you would ned much by way of top ups....once a year maybe? But I'm really impressed so far.

Can I ask which laser they are using on you Angie? Do you feel anything?
And when you say brazillian with all the back bits (do you mean your bum)? Sorry to ask but I want my bikini doing and have some back bits that need doing too but feel a bit embarrassed about approaching them.

I had my bikini line done by sk:n about six years ago. It's amazing. Never had to shave or wax again. Definitely cheaper in the long run than all the waxing.

I spent hundreds of pounds about 8 years ago. It's pretty much all come back. Not a permanent solution.

daisy, is the Lumea suitable for facial hair? I used this device 3 days ago and my chin is now covered in spots and a nasty bumpy rash.

Daisy, I didn't think the Lumea could be so effective. Is it permanent, or the sort of thing you need to keep using every so often forever? I need my whole legs done, as well as a Brazillian - how long would it take to do such a large area yourself?

sirraymond the laser brand machine is cynosure (i think) but not sure of the model. I have a brazilian with peri-anal so all the underneath, bum and just leaving a small triangle at the front. Most of it I cant feel but on some bits it feels like being flicked with elastic. I would say its much less painful than waxing.

daisydaisys · 30/05/2014 11:31

IDugUpADiamond - yes it's suitable for the face. It even has a special facial attachment (with a smaller flash area for greater precision). I've been using it on my tache (lovely!) and it's been one of the fastest working areas of the body for me (it's stopped growing completely, whereas my bikini line is still a bit patchy).

Rosarosa - well, I think it kind of depends. For some people they do the treatments over a couple of months and then that's it, they never need to use it again. I think for most people you have to use it regularly for a couple of months (every fortnight) and after that point you have to 'top up' every 4-6 weeks. In that sense I guess it isn't a complete equivalent to having permanent laser removal.

For me, given that I used to wax every 3-4 weeks, this is less time consuming and gives better results (you don't have the grow back, ingrown hairs, your body is constantly hair-free). I actually don't know whether the salon laser is guaranteed permanent or whether you'd have to go back in a couple of years? Genuinely not sure about that one... Any one else know?

It's pretty quick to use - it takes a matter of seconds on the face/armpits, a couple of minutes bikini line, and then maybe 20-30 minutes to do the legs? Definitely once you get the hang of it it's speedy... Quicker than waxing (less time spent howling and grimacing!)
