Buying dd an expensive pair of sandals with the plan that she will outgrow them and I will inherit them?? bad precedent? bad message?

Maybe this is a parenting issue!

I'd never normally spend 100 euro on a pair of sandals for my daughter but she tried on my fitflops, loves them and wants a pair herself. I said no way, I have these because I'll get about four summers out of them! But I'm wondering if I could get her a pair of fitflop sandals and then next summer when she's outgrown them, i could have them! Or would she just demand a pair of sandals costing 100 euro every year from now on??

Confused

Dd and I are the same size evetything atm, this is why I have ordered her a Superdry coat and hoodie!

Casmama · 26/05/2014 11:56

She might plus it depends on how old she is- what if she doesn't outgrow them?

I keep nicking Ds's clothes and vice versa. Hence he got a Superdry Hoody for his birthday Grin

Make it clear they are a special treat. Wink

She is 11, and she is still 3 or 4 inches shorter than I am but almost the same size foot, she's a 37 and I'm 38. So, I know hee hee that I would get them next summer!

I think I will offer it to her on a yes/no basis. This pair (that I like too) and this deal is not on the table every year from now on.

Oh yes, definite special treat, not because I want to borrow them.
It works both ways though, I tell dd if she does x and y without moaning she can borrow my Ash trainers.

RyvitaBerry · 26/05/2014 12:02

If she didn't outgrow them then at least she would get more than one summer out of them. So that wouldn't be a bad thing.

I've talked myself in to it.

Dd has Hunter wellies too, I chose the ones I wanted, gotithem for her online then told her I'd got her a really good pair for her sailing trip.
I got brownie points for that and she is none the wiser.

I would do this. But I'm pretty sure that I could 'sell' the deal that expensive shoes are only for the overlap time when I can inherit them and then again for when her feet have stopped growing. The overlap time being a well-defined 'extra' IYSWIM.

(DD is still 3 sizes below me, and I have no desire whatsoever to share the DSes shoes!)
