Massively over-dry face following holiday - what to do?

I've just come back from a week in the sun - first time for about 6 years we've been anywhere hot. Despite putting factor 50 on my face, it is incredibly dry and flaky. I've been throwing serum, night cream etc on it all day, but it is still awful. Does anyone have any idea what I could get that might help? I realise I used to have some Bobbi Brown face oil that might have been good, but I gave it away as it was too greasy for me.
Just goes to show how wrecking the sun is though - incredibly noticeable now I'm older (48) - should know better at my age I suppose!

Intensive treatment with Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm. Gorgeously soothing.

Coconut oil. Smooth over your face before bed. It's lovely and so moisturising. I'd so it every other night for a couple of weeks. Also you should try to wash your face with honey. Sounds crazy but it's amazing!! Leaves your skin clean and soft, and it's naturally anti bacterial.
Good luck!

Brilliant, thanks, i'll give it a go

Also rehydrate yourself by drinking lots of water, moderating alcohol and caffeine intake & still applying a high sun factor cream.

Camsie30 · 26/05/2014 09:54

You can also use coconut oil as a hair mask, I think its a wonder product!!

Tiggywinklespinny · 26/05/2014 10:26

Cleanse with a rehydrating cleanser, gentle exfoliation, hydrating mask, tone then moisturise. Drink plenty of water and in a week you'll be plump and glowy!

something2say · 26/05/2014 10:39

I used to buy those facepack sachets from super drug. One time I tired the rehydrating one for anti ageing. It's like a thick white cream that you leave on for half an hour. I found that most of it soaked in....how dry WAS my skin?!....and then that my face looked much younger afterwards. For a quid from super drug. That is my tip!

I second the Neal's Yard Beauty Balm suggestion - although it's ££££ it's really effective...xxx

cashmerecardigans · 26/05/2014 12:47

Thanks everyone. Just off to the shops to check out the Neals yard balm. By the way, where do I buy coconut oil?

Be careful of coconut oil, it's quite comedogenic. My skin hated it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/05/2014 13:19

Eucerin cream.

pocketandsweet · 26/05/2014 13:54

I was going to say Eucerin. I have the 5% urea one. It's the only thing that quickly sorts out my skin when it is flaky.

squoosh · 26/05/2014 13:58

Oilatum Natural Repair Face Cream is the best thing when your skin feels dry and frazzled.

daisydabbles · 26/05/2014 14:06

Yes! I agree about the Eucerin 5% urea cream. It sorts out dry skin and doesn't cause spots. It has quite a watery consistency, so if you want something a bit thicker maybe try the La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5? I've reviewed it on my blog: daisydabbles.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/my-top-five-products-from-escentual.html you can get it from Boots as well as online shops. Also, beware any moisturisers with alcohol high up the ingredients list - often companies use it as a vehicle for other moisturising ingredients, but it's actually drying in the long run. Anyway - hope you find something soon! xxx

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/05/2014 15:44

Eucerin 10% is even better imo!

chipshop · 26/05/2014 15:49

I've just got home from hols and my forehead is very dry. Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream is working wonders.

cashmerecardigans · 26/05/2014 19:00

Just to say a massive thank you. I tried the Neals yard balm and it is just amazing. My skin feels so much better already. Lesson learned! Unfortunately not taken the advice re giving up alcohol yet as officially still on holiday until Wednesday Smile
